Over THREE YEARS later it was on sale and I bought it. Kind of fun. Definitely a beer and chips game but I'm enjoying it and that's all I ask from 40K games.

Update: Loving the amphetamine parrot out of this. It's Diabalo for 40K. Lots and lots of murder while upgrading your equipment and generally wandering around the subsector being an rather unsavoury chap, what-ho old bean? to Chaos. There's the campaign itself but you're able to toodle pip about doing side missions to level up along the way.

Update2: Oh yeah, get yourself a decent bolter and it's like "I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER ALL THESE DAEMON CORPSES I'M PILING UP."

Update3: That's the campaign over but still plenty to do with the DLC and wandering over to amphetamine parrot on the Black Legion. Haven't levelled my equipment enough as of yet to go murder Dark Elder.

Update4: Murdered a lot of Dark Elder and the Inquisitor is salty. "Say hello to Slaanesh." However, you're in a subsector that had been cut off and the Dark Elder mention how they came to help these poor abandoned people. +1 points for having a point, -1000 pts for all the torture and enslaving. That's the IMPERIUM'S job.

So, you have your Inquisitor of whose catch phrases include "heh, violence solves everything" (usually said when escaping trapped chambers) encounters a room filled with blood, bodies, and skulls (not uncommon in the Imperium it seems). "Ah, a symbol of Khorne" , he observes, "we must discover who is behind this." Then we encounter enemies of whom you murder them all, as you do. "The Cult of Khorne must be behind this" says he. WELL beslubberING HELL, this must be why you're an Inquisitor what with all these INVESTIGATIVE SKILLS you possess.

What a guy.

It does get old when you run out of narrative missions (which still do revolve around the usuals). Still, certainly got my money out of it and haven't finished the Khorne missions as yet due to amphetamine parrotty equipment drops/choices I'm not levelled up enough. Probably a good time to restart as a different class!

How well does it stack up against a hack'n'slash like Diablo 3 (my main point of comparison with these sorts of games) in terms of responsiveness, pace, enemy variety, level design, etc.

I don't need a comprehensive review, just if you have a gut-feeling.

It's not as well paced or designed as D3. More a do a few things each day then move on kind of thing. All of it is pure kill everyone without much finesse.

Fair enough. I probably won't be able to sink hours and hours into it per day anyway, so that's fine.

It was on sale when I got it and it's certainly been fun. I do recommend it.
