lizardmen in 40k
« on: August 17, 2009, 10:47:39 PM »
ive decided to start up a lizardmen army but to be played in 40k as far as conversions for the mostpart ill be putting LM heads and tails on space marine bodys with some green stuffing to make the body more creature-esque the backround story is a large amount of SM's went to the planet where lizardmen originated the LMs won the fight and took the SM armor and weapons basically i need somewhere to start ive decided that the units the armor came from is what the lizards stats are however im having trouble finding unit "stand ins"
IE stegadons (possibly some type of tank) cold ones terradons carnosaurs etc any help is apprieciated

Well, in the fluff the Ancient Slann is described as Lizardmen. But yeah, it's a fun idea. will take allot of work, but if you can pull it off then it would be pretty awesome.

i know one of my friends has taken a lot of dark elf models and made some pretty nice conversions for DE.  I believe he also used some cold ones as warp beasts.  But you seem to have your heart set on SM, so other than your lizardman i really dont see how the beasts would really fit in there (its hard to go from organic to battle tank, though you could justify it much easier as ork of something chaos) :-\

In any case, thats a hell of a lot of conversion work, but I hope you can pull it off.  Would love to see some concept pics if you have them.

I am doing the same thing, but using them as Tyranids, since there are more unit equivalents (Stegs=Fexes, Suarus=Genestealers, Skinks=Guants, etc.).  As pointed out, it's easier to go from organic to organic, then to tech.

I have, however, seen some cool "Dino-rider" Guard conversions, even some Tau Lizardmen.  Try a Google search.

just had a new thought chaos space marines and instead of the lizardmen stealing sm technology they just i guess "signed up" to be part of chaos who said all chaos SM's had to be human                              anyways same idea just better models to fit lizardmen heads im ordering within the next week ill probably only get a squad of 10 regular or maybe some khorne berzerkers just to make sure ill be able to convert them properly i dont want to order a full army and realize i nedd some better or different stuff anyways as far as a stegadon coubting as a tank if you think about it if i were to just add a bunch of gunns and cannons instead of the howdah its like an organic tank big slow deadly and with alot of fire power and if i put some guns on the new DE cold ones i think they could sufficiantly count as CSM bikes anyways share your thoughts on it

Well, someone on Dakka has some converted Scalies to act as one of the Tau recruited races. His prototype, although really well painted, looked kind of lame, but his final product looked incredible.

Here it is... I don't know if I'm allowed to link to the guy's actual topic, so I'll just show a pic. (model converted and painted by Shas'El Tael of Dakka)

I hope Fafnir doesn't mind too much if I'm stealing his show, but here's the requested link. You must jump back a couple of pages to find the start of the Lizardmen in Space.

You might also want to check this little project as well.

P.S. Here's an other one which is also based on Lizardmen and Tau bits.

P.P.S.

I just rechecked. The picture above is not from the above (first) link. You may find more of those right here.
After having a closer look at those minis, I noticed that the Lizard's head is not from the current GW fantasy range ... I think.

Does anybody know where it is from?

My IG Lizardmen, the 1st Lustrian Imperial Guard Regiment from the 2008 US GTs, a few pics are available at:

http://s418.photobucket.com/albums/pp266/don_mondo_bucket/1st%20Lustrian%20IG/

I've added a Psyker Battle Squad of old fantasy slann since the pics, and am working on some Leman Russ tanks made from the new Stegadons. First created the army for the 2002 or 2001 US GTs, forget exactly when.

I'm positive it's based off of a Lizardmen Saurus. The jowels and neck are different, through lots of greenstuff, but the shape of the snout and eyes is exactly the same as a saurus. There's definetly a lot of modification involved, but there's no doubt it's a saurus head.

I'm not entirely convinced. Could it be an older edition of those saurus warriors like these?
