$@^?@$&@ing Pyskers
« on: January 7, 2003, 05:50:45 PM »
my freind has an edlritch army which alows him to take a seer council of 3 warlocks and 2 farseers.  I just played him with my new tau army and he rocked me, these guys especialy. they have spears that can tear up armor at 18 in, mind war which can take several wounds at a time off my shaso' without going through his armor, and they have 4+ invulnerable saves that they can re roll when they fortune themselves
does anyone know if you get invulnerable saves against mind war?

Yes, you do get invulnerables from Mind War, the codex says that armor saves aren't allowed.  Whether or not cover saves are allowed GW has never said...  And Augment can give Mind War a 36" range, so its not that short...

So give ur Shas'o a Shield Generator to protect him, and the only army that has a good chance of killing a Seer council are Necrons... and even then its iffy...

as an old time eldar player and a very new tau player  I have to agree with the monkey god.
if you pretty much ignore the rest of his army and pulverise his council the rest of his army will fall apart fast and hard .....against tau ....
if it was any one ells I would use a seer council as bait and draw in the enemy and counter assalt with the rest of my army ..... but against tau ( I found) you can't do that lol (incert big boom and flying eldar parts here) ;D

To nuke his seer council out from the table, You Marker Lights and Seeker Missles. If they fail one wound they are gone bye bye.

Plus you out range them big time with the pulse rifle just aim and fire. Do a leap frog movment. 2 sqauds fire and 2 fall back. Repeat.

Use SteathSuits Heavn forbid theses guys just mop up the Eldar like thier is no torrow.

With your Battle Suits Use Missle Pods and Plasma Rifles.

Hope this helps

You should see how badly they slaughter any of my 'nids taht get close enough. A mind war killed my Tyrant as soon as it got into range. I hate that 'Nids get absolutely no invulnerable save at all, not even in the monsterous creature design rules.

Mind war can out distance pulse rifles, and nearly everything else in the Tau arsenal. Just the Tank guns and missiles stand a chance.

Tau need snipers!

I think you guys are forgetting the awesome power of the twin linked rail gun.  At 72" and a re roll, you should be able to absolutely pummel them into the ground. ;)

Yeah, if youre allowed to use those rules...

Tyranids need some sort of invulnerable save, otherwise they can get butchered so fast.

Snipers dont really fit into tau. Just my opinion.

Seer councils are nice, but fully geared-up they are VERY expensive, meaning the rest of his army shouldnt be that difficult. Wipe the rest out, then focus everything on the council. Or try to ignore them, though its hard to, as with augment, that mind war has a three-foot range! isnt that great?

the tl rail gun gives you one shot, so you have one cance to kill one, that is no good cause their save are invulnerable. also augment gives it good range. im glad to know i get invulnerable saves cause that helps alot, scince my shaso' has a sheild generator. im getting a hammerhead w/rail gun, this should help me put alot of wounds on the table, plus str 6 can insta-kill the farseers

Actually, i hate to break this to you, but farseers are toughness four... So you need strength 8 to insta kill. Plus dont forget that 4+ invulnerable with a re-roll... Thats hard to get through.

My farseer lasted like 7 turns in assault with a hive tyrant, carnifex, and 12 hormagaunts with his 4+ re-rollable. Do not underestimate it. It was a game to the death, in case youre wondering about the 7 turns.

I never got to look too closely at my MC design rules before my idiot cousin lost the book. I skimmed through it and didn't see one.

What did that Tyrant have? Was it specialized for close combat (2 talons, bio plasma and implant attack, carapace, melee organs), or was it just an average Tyrant?

Twinlinked Railguns are Tau style, but snipers aren't? How does that work?

cause the tau dont believe in lone dog style operations but lone wolf hunting in packs therefore a sniper would not be tau-ish

farseers are not toughness 4, no eldar is and i dont underestimate them. they killed my shaso' in one turn which in the small battle i played really dulled my teeth. (i diddn't think he got his invulnerable save then)

Yeah monkeyk1ng, know your stats before you try to correct others'. Farseers are toughness 4.

Siege_TF: im not sure what the tyrant had, but it was a 1 hq, 2 troop, and one optional (elite, heavy, or fast), with no point limits (guess what the hq was, bet you cant!). so im sure the tyrant had all the goodies, i wasnt really paying attention, hed just give me dice to roll for saves and that was that  :P.

now then, I'm pretty sure that the Singing Spears have only a 12" range as there is a special character with a special singing spear that has a 18" range.

youre right, trenog. the singing spear does have a 12" range.

there was a guy in a battle report who said he augmented it so the range was 24", but this hasnt been cleared in any codex. i can see where he got the idea, as the singing spear is so powerful because its charged psychically. but that would have to be cleared with your opponent before the game, as its not official.

however, mind war can be augmented, giving it a range of 36". that is pretty nasty, especially playing on boards 48" x 48". thats nearly the whole board. it is if you stick him in the middle of the playing field. that is pretty nasty.
