Title: New Hello Kitty Marines (WIP)

That being said, I'm not positive that hello kitty is any less of a complete and total copywrite infringement.

armies like that probably have a better chance of winning because you're too busy rolling on the floor.

I love it, I have two girls and every time I see pictures of this stuff I feel totally confident that I have just found the perfect way to get them involved in 40k. I think making an army like this because you think GW sucks or some other argument would be wrong, but if my little girl came up and said, "I want my guys to be pink!" then my princess is getting pink marines.

Sure it's 'cute' and a medium to subvert children who like fuzzy/cute/stuff stuff, but it'll only stay in friendly games and not in GW stores...

It's like using LoTR models in fantasy or 40K, that's a no in GW book, and are not allowed in official events and photographs... Hello Kitty is more of an offender.

Plus Hello Kitty is more offensive than just flowers and butterflys, it doesn't imply ANOTHER company's products.

Anyway, convertion and having fun is all good, but IMO, it's just 'wrong' after the initial ROFL.

I don't doubt the army seen is in regards to a put-down of GW, but what right would you have to say that an army could not be played in an official game simply based on theme or appearance? Are you next going to say my dark angels aren't dark green enough? where's the line?

I know there's a difference between someone saying,"SM sucks, thats why they're pink and wussy" and then a person who wants their army to reflect themselves, my little girls aren't into the dark, brooding gothic stuff.

In 'friendly' environments, the 'hosts' can do whatever they feel like doing... I'm not one to say... just personally the Hello Kitty thing is 'wrong'.

Pink Marines with flowers over them is fine... there's nothing wrong with that... what is wrong would be sticking another persons' intellectual property on something else and claiming it to be something else in official GW event is ... enough to get kicked out of say .... a GT etc.

As a note: the 'strawberry short cake" army I mentioned has only the name in common... all the things modeled onto it did not indicate any specific producer etc.

Hello Kitty heads, Barbie heads, are someone else intellectual property, and GW as well as store managers have a legal obligation to limit this cross contamination...

I'm just saying, at the end of the day, they can't get their pictures taken for any official GW event, or more like, they shouldn't recognize these models in a legal standpoint.

Against someone who's breaking GW licencing agreements, it's a legal right ( in the case of using LoTR models in 40K/WFB.

Again, it's a legal thing, you can't use something that is RECOGNISABLE on '40K' models. Another company has rights to that 'barbie' head.

Well, you assumed that I was talking about appearences, I'm talking about the rule that at official GW events you can't get those models pictures taken... barbie heads are barbie heads, and GW is not looking forward to free advertising and/or an encounter with barbie lawyers, or with the LoTR lawyers when that situation arrises.

It would also depend how much you use of another licensed product, you could change things so much that hello kitty just becomes marines with big crazy animal heads on them. and as long as you keep the model 75% GW model, I don't know if they could do too much.

This thread isn't a breach of IP, and this thread isn't talking about the legality of making Hello Kitty Space Marines. The relevant comment you've made to the topic of this thread is along the lines of "it feels wrong". That's all we need to know, don't drag the point out with a load of the Udders of Thoth about the legality of using it in GWs and Tournies. Last I heard Jehan lives in Japan and GWs are pretty scarce there so I doubt it's an issue we could care less about.

Anyway i will start to paint the right(in my first picture) one this weekend and the left has some green stuff treatment (my first!) i will show after my first base painting as i put this in the painting forum :P

But seriously... good conversion skills and keeping theme though.

Good paint jobs that match their heads.

My fav is the samurai head Kitty.

The dread is so-so...from a conversion stand-point, nice try, but doesn't look 40K enough, unlike SM bodies and HK heads.

To sanctjud; off course it is for a laugh living in cuteness land it seemed proper to make a hello kitty theemed army.

it is the first time i used greenstuff, i made the sword just of some spare plastic

The Dread was something to strike terror into the Gundam fans, i did not want to convert a expensive dreadnought (i am quit stingy :P)i will probably pot some chaos pikes on it and such.

I bought a whirlwind cheaply so my next project may well be a Hello kitty Rhino.

Has anyone ever seen a company sponsored army in a tourney. If coca-cola or macdonald's bought the models in exchange for the advertisement value, I'd play. It's be like a race-car sponsored by viagra or a football team sponsored by a car insurance company.

Actually, wouldn't that be a great tourney theme, bring in some corporate big-wig marketing fellow and let him judge the best company color scheme for cash prizes. (I have some banshees that I intended to look like coca-cola because I was playing biel-tan and wanted a sprite-green themed color scheme. It didnt work).

I live in japan, and there is Kitty stuff everywhere, it is hard to evade :o

Those Hello kitty mobilphone straps have the perfect size for 40kmarines.

I had it lying around so i thought of making an predator turret off of it, cheapo!

Hello Kitty Marines!
Hello Kitticus is a smaller power of chaos, when slaneesh emerged who was a benevolent god, was sucked into chaos Maelstrom and was changed forever. It ideals of cuteness was still there but now perverted. It looked on the Human empire with disdain, all these darkness and fear inspiring architecture, Hello Kitticus would bring cuteness and loveliness back to the imperium even if it would be destroy it in the process.
The bright cats space marine chapter would be the first to be converted. On the just liberated planet of Sanrio, Chapter commander Halokaton found a small cute statue, after the battle. He felt an unnatural attraction to this statue and secretly he took it with him as a spoil of war and hid it in his chamber. The following campaigns Hello Kitticus slowly corrupted the chapter commander, and Halo was converted to the ways of cuteness. He hid the idol at the chapter chapel and after him the chaplains were the first to convert. It was during the charmy campaign that the
whole chapter changed and showed its "true" color, dropping their former chapter colors the marines emerged in a multitude of bright colors. Hello Kitticus was pleased and gave the marines the gift of his face. The chapter now renamed to the hello kitty chapter, massacred their allies in a cute fashion, who fled in confusion and disarray because of the mental anguish caused by the intolerable cuteness level.

When the inquisition later came to investigate the planet, they were horrified to find joyfull happy people worshipping, idols of hello kitty, wearing cute clothes and accessories and had painted their cities in joyfull colors, singing songs of praise for Hello Kitticus. The inquisition dealt accordingly with this heresy of worshipping a false god and ordered Exterminatus.

But the Hello Kitty Chapter allready had left for another planet to show the cute ways of Hello Kitticus

(probably will be based on slaneesh rules)

Had you not used plastic toy heads and modeled them yourself to be anatomically correct like the normal SP heads.(As anatomically correct as a catman can be). I would give you the whole "Omg thats amazing" deal. However not taking into account the very nice paint jobs you gave them, I cant say it takes a terrible amount of skill to mount a plastic hello kitty head onto a marine and green stuff it to be relatively seamless.

Mind you no offense is meant by this and I think its a somewhat original idea and neat that you tried it, but really if your going to do it, go all the way and make it your own.

As you can see, clearly scale wasn't in fact in the artists interests. The head is in fact LARGER than the rest of the body combined. If they were 'anatomically correct', they would in fact cease to be Hello Kitty Marines, and everyone would not go 'hilarious', and instead go 'oh god, why?'¹.

Well this is true. Ironicly, they should have the capacity to have a war gaming community... they're fairly into the modeling and crafting, plus they have all these turn-based RPG tactic video games.

From what I remember, some Koreans had to go to one of Japan's stores just to buy 40k stuff. Never figured why GW stuff didn't rocket in Japan, I'm guessing its too expensive.

Well, honestly, Japan, especially Tokyo, is a very "fast" moving place. Most people (teenagers) just don't have the time to sit down build, paint AND play Warhammer. Even if we did... well, there'd be so many other things to do as well. Which is why I'm collecting a Warhammer army here, in the UK while at Uni, and not back in Tokyo.

Public transport is good in the big cities, here where i live there is only one traintrack and no underground(subway).

I'm not sure about the painting, on one hand the flat plasticy colours work well with the kitty heads style but on the other hand it does sometimes look a bit like its letting the model down. The plasmagun in particular seems more like a nerf toy than a weapon, wheras the bolters and boltpistols seem like guns due to the metalic on them.

The only difference I see in these is their body armor looks a bit more bad-ass than usual. Besides that, these are just typical space marines with their moé (if vacant) little faces/helmets, chibi vehicles and cuddly weapon systems.
