I was wondering if any one knows a good technique for painting Wraithbone
As I have got a Wraithseer - And want it to be painted Wraithbone style
I have tried once - and failed sadly - So need striping/respraying
For my first attempt I sprayed it black, then again sprayed it white to get it some depth
Then mate showed my how to 'glaze' in the crevices - Such as between joints, fingers and around the 'dimples'
It was looking OK - But the contrast between the white spray and the Griffin Wash was too sudden
So touched up with watered down white - But still didn't look quite right
So I hoping some one here can help me
As after paying near on £40 for it - And spending a day of splicing to pose it dramatically - I want a paint job to make it look as good as it can
So if any one can help me out here I will be very grateful

personally I do the following:
(All paints have been thinned to at least 1:1 paint-water ratio.)
1. Prime Chaos Black.
2. Dheneb Stone. 2-3 layers. Get a smooth coat over everything you want to paint bone.
3. Wash with Gryphone Sepia.
4. highlight with Dheneb Stone. Make sure the recesses/shade areas stay gryphone sepia.
5. paint over everything with a thinned Bleached bone, including recesses. The thinned bleached bone should show the dark gryphone below.
6. highlight with 2:1 bleach bone-Skull White
7. highlight 1:1 bleach bone-skull white
8. Edge with Skull White.
Now, if you're painting a rather large smooth area, you may want to wet-blend instead.
steps 1-5 stay the same, then just wet blend. between 1:1 Bleach Bone/White, 1:2 bone/white and straight bone.

Just want to say, as the "base color" isn't really bleached bone, but a mix between bone and white, the above method brings out a very bright ivory color. If you want a darker more worn look, you may want to use another method.

I prefer a yellower base to my wraithbone.
Prime white.
Paint Snakebite Leather all over.
Highlight up with a mixture of rotting Flesh and Bleached Bone.
Final highlights with Skull White mixed with a small amount of Bad Moon Yellow.
Your paints should be very thin and, depending on the size of the area you may need a lot of layers. For my Exarch jetbike canopy there are about 15 layers between the darkest brown and the palest highlight.

Valar has a good waveserpent tutorial in which his wraith bone is painted like this:
The Wraithbone was painted in stages using a layering technique. I started with a snakebite leather wash over a white basecoat. Then over this I used about 4 or so thin layers of pure bleached bone. The next highlight is 50:50 Bleached Bone and Skull White using 2 thin layers, and a final highlight of pure skull white.

Depending on how much bone you're painting, and the effect you want, there are a couple of ways. Valar's style , and Reikai's are both clean, while Ian's looks a bit more anchent.
Personally, i use a combination of techniques based on what i'm painting. For generic, rank and file (Catapults, tank engines, chainswords) i use a simplified version of what Reikai does. Dhenb Stone, followed by two(2) washes of Griphionne Sepia (to create depth) and a drybrush of Bleached Bone. Substitute look alike colours where appropriate depending on your brand.
For more prominant figures, such as Autarch weapons, Banshees, and Farseers, i put more effort into it, working more like Ian. I start with Snakebite Leader, then Rotting Flesh, Bleached Bone, wash it in Griphionne Sepia, highlight with Bleached Bone again, then do fine Skull White highlights. If i want it to look more ancient, i'll either not do the second Bleached bone, or use more washes.
With the first, i can throw out 20 Shruiken Catapults in about 30 minutes (including drying time for the washes) and the underside of a tank in 10-15. With the other, it takes be 30ish minutes just to do the rune armour on a single Farseer.
