Soulburst and Matched Play Psychic Powers
« on: August 17, 2017, 07:49:29 AM »
Greetings all,

I had a situation come up in a game last night and I am pretty sure I could do this. (Not sure, so we had a roll off and I lost but want to know for next time.)

I destroyed a unit in my shooting phase triggering a soulburst action on Yvraine. Can I use that action to cast Word of the Phoenix on a unit even though I had already cast it in the Psychic phase? The unit I wished to cast it on had not taken a soulburst action this turn and was not within 7" to take advantage of the existing soulburst.

I think I can do this as the ability allows you to do other actions you can only do once a turn without the ability. Thanks in advance for the help.

I'd read the language on the psychic powers section. If it says you can cast powers only once per turn, the answer is no. If it says once per phase I'd say you'd have wiggle room.

It says "once per turn", so no you should not have been allowed.

Roger, so what if the same scenario happened in my opponents turn? Say I killed an unit with overwatch from my D-Scythes triggering a soulburst. Can I cast the power then or is that the same game turn not just the opponents turn?

8th does a better job of defining "turn" and "battle round." If I remember correctly, turn is what a player does when they go through the phases, battle round is when both players have a turn.
