Slave Snare on Reavers
« on: December 19, 2002, 09:15:00 AM »
GW pics on the 3 reaver squad box clearly show slave snares fitted to the bikes. (I don't know if they come in the box as I've never purchased the 3 squad but you can get the chains seperately from mail order).

However the 2ed codex vehicle upgrades only actually mentions Raiders. Can you fit them to reavers? A squad of 6 Reavers overflying and giving 6D6 strength 4 wounds does seem a bit over the top - even if highly enjoyable.

I have an Archon on a bike with a supporting 5 bike squad wtih 2 blasters and wonder if I can be even more evil.

I've fitted out my wych raiders with them with a hgh degree of success so far.

Thanks

Reavers aren't vehicles so it shouldn't be possible, and besides, IIRC jetbikes can't fly over hostile troops anyway.

Yes the chains do come with the 3pc jetbike box set.

Army Builder does not allow you to give snares to Reavers.

Now, I've a question:

If you put these on a Raider

it says that you get a D6 S4 hit

does that mean roll a D6 for everyone in the unit being passed over or a D6 for every chain hanging off the raider?

and what D6 roll is required? Is it based on the Raider's BS?

The way I play them ,(and I'm the only DE at the club, so there's no-one to ask for advice) is
Roll one D6 - gives you the number of hits. Then roll to wound with strength 4 against the opponents toughness - normal armour saves allowed.

As to how many -  the codex says "slave snares" in the plural so I read it that you get one D6 for slave snares be they many or one fitted.

Of course you can fly 2 or 3 Raiders over the squad before dropping a wytch squad and assaulting.

If my raider hasn't got them fitted I offer the points list I've prepared to prove I've got them and paid for them in points to greet the "you can't do that"

Sorry IIRC ??
But I get the point on vehicles. Reavers have S & T etc. So why do GW show them? Fluff? Is Talos not a vehicle either? not that I want to put snares on that...or perhaps?.

It does exactly what the codex says.
You roll 1d6 and that's how many hits you get, then you just roll to wound and save as normal.

If I Rember Correctly
If something doesn't have an Armour Value it isn't a vehicle

The Reaver Jetbike chains are just for looks.  They don't really do anything.

If you want, you can put them on a Raider to represent slave snares, but I think they're a little small for that.

Slave Snares are described pretty well in the Codex, but since you're confused it works like this.

You pay for the Vehicle upgrade once, and then represent with an arbitrary number of snares.

Then, when you fly over an enemy unit, that unit suffers D6 S4 hits.  You don't have to roll to hit, they're already hits.  You just have to roll to see how many hits there are, then roll to wound, and then your opponent makes his armor saves.

Then anyone who dies is automatically taken captive.  Bwahaha.

That kinda sounds like it would hurt, being dragged through the air by a spiky chain (not to mention being picked up by it) at speeds of like 50 mph....

I've never actually used Slave Snares, I don't think they are worth it on Raiders as they just get shot down right away anyways.

lol

yeah its illegal to put slave snares on Reavers

but it would hurt a amphetamine parrotload. I think the Archons decided the Hamonculi were having too much fun making painful weapons, they made one of their own. :)

Imagine using slave snares to capture a monstrous creature, say a carnifex or an avatar.  The raider would never get off the ground  ;D

That would be hilarious, kill a carnifex like that.  Maybe shoot it a couple times with some Lances, it's down to 1 Wound, you hit it with a Slave Snare, (D6 hits, wound on a 6, dies on a 1) hehehehehe....

Hmmm you can damage a space marine dreadnaught with slave snares....

Dreadnaught is carried away by five raiders with slave snares:
Marine: "I didn't know dreadnaughts can FLY!!!"
Sergeant: "Praise the Emperor! He pursues these aliens even into the sky!"

Later, after the battle:
Captain: "What happened to our Senex Antiquus Belisarius? He did not return, we found no debris"
Sergeant: "Ummm, methinks those aliens stole him"

Or just take on an Armoured Company, and use the "Lucky Glancing Hit" rule. Rol the D6 for No of attacks, then roll a D6 per attack. On a 6, roll again. If you scroe another hit, you've glanced the tank! Imagine stealing a Leman (or even a Baneblade) like that...  ;D

Except that doesn't work, sorry. The hits are only S4. Unless back armor. Wow, that would be funny as hell. It WOULD work picking up a dreadnought... but it would be hella difficult to make some fluff for it!  :o
