Gutstikk's 1 750 Pts Competitive Lists Project: Iyanden Lists
« on: December 31, 2008, 01:42:54 PM »
There's the compilation of the Iyanden themed competitive list from Gutstikk's Project on the Eldar Boards, the Original Thread can be found HERE.

I've compiled all of the Iyanden themed Lists made so far in there to help for the discussions and tactical reviews. All are welcome to comment and to make suggestions, not only POC members, but these must take into account a minimal amount of fluff and I think you can't really talk about a wraith themed force without at least two or three of these units in there. ;)

- The majority's choice of an army will be the deciding factor as of which will be retained as a Tournament list.
- If you think you can come up with a variant or a new list concept that is highly competitive, prays post it with basic tactics to use with.

And yes, most are from me and my own concept of 'competetiveness' and come from my own experience in the field, that doesn't mean other builds can't be done.

The last list (List 10) come from some comments/discussion in the Iyanden POC - Click HERE to see.

LIST 1 (Yellow list) - From Starrakatt

HQ: 300 Pts
- Yriel - 155 pts
-Farseer w/ Spirit Stones, Runes of Warding, Fortune & Doom - 145 pts

ELITE: 525 Pts
- Harlequins X 7 w/ 6 Kisses, Shadowseer & Death Jester - 190 pts

+ Wave Serpent w/ Twin Shurican, Spirit Stone & Star Engines - 125 pts

TROOP: 634 Pts
- Wraithguard X 10, Spiritseer w/ Conceal - 396 pts
- Guardian X 10 w/ Scatter Laser, Warlock w/ Embolden & Singing Spear - 128 pts
 + Wave Serpent w/ Twin-Shurican, Spirit Stone - 110 pts

HEAVY: 290 Pts
- Wraithlord w/ EML & Brightlance, 2 Flamers - 155 pts
- Wraithlord w/ EML & Scatter Laser, 2 Flamers - 135 pts

FAST: 0 Pts
- NONE

TOTAL: 1 749 Pts

37 Models, 2 Vehicles, 2 MCs / 10 KP / 2 Scoring Units

Tactics: Depending of opponent, the Wraithguard can wait in cover on or near an Objective, supported by nearby Farseer, Veiled harlies and both Wraithlord for a long range/short range firebase and countercharge position.

Wraithguard on Serpent, unless there is very good LOS blocking cover should stay in Reserves along with the Guardians, with Yriel in one or the other Serpent, although I would favorise the Wraithguard. The role of these WG and Yriel is to flank the enemy and play havoc with their support elements. Yriel can detach if need be and take on units, trying to avoid Powerfists if there is some in the vicinity. The Serpent should be used to prevent easy LOS to the WG and Yriel or at least provide cover - Star Engines may be of help there.

The Guardians are there for scoring purpose and may be used in two ways: Keep a rear Objective while the Wraithguard advance - In this case Going to Ground should be considered to keep them alive as long as possible, and their Serpent can be used to transport the Harlies into assulting position, using their CC power to add to the Wraithguard and Yriel.
Failing that, Reserve is the best place for these as they just can't be shot at if they aren't there. Another option would be to start the Guardians in reserve and their Serpent on table for the harlies.

Alternatively, the whole of the army may advance if facing a gunline, using cover and general resilience to take over objectives and smite opposition, while The Guardians stay out of the way for scoring purpose.

LIST 2 (Orange List) - From Starrakatt

HQ: 300 Pts
- Yriel - 155 pts
- Farseer w/ Spirit Stones, Runes of Warding, Fortune, Doom - 145 pts

ELITE: 670 Pts
- Wraithguard, Warlock W/ Destructor - 210 pts
 + Wave Serpent W/ Twin-Shuricans, Spirit Stone, Star Engines - 125 pts
- Wraithguard, Warlock W/ Destructor - 210 pts
 + Wave Serpent W/ Twin-Shuricans, Spirit Stone, Star Engines - 125 pts

TROOP: 460 Pts
- Dire Avengers, Exarch W/ Dual Catapult, Bladestorm - 152 pts
+Wave Serpent W/Twin EML, Shurican upgrade, Spirit Stone - 140 pts
- Pathfinders X 7 - 168 pts

HEAVY: 320 Pts
- Fire Prism W/ Holofield & Spirit Stone - 160 pts
- Fire Prism W/ Holofield & Spirit Stone - 160 pts

FAST: 0 Pts
- NONE

TOTAL: 1 750 Pts

31 Models, 5 Vehicles / 11 KP / 2 Scoring Units

Tactics: Keep the enemy at arms length, use the Pathfinder as a bait to attarct enemy units and blast these to smitheren when they get near using the Wraithguard, Yriel, Avengers and whatnot, using the tanks to channel charging lanes and protect the bait (Pathfinders) and Avengers.

Alternatively, the Patfinders can be kept in Reserves and/or Outflank to keep clear if the a table deployment isn't the best of options.

LIST 3 (White List) - From Starrakatt

HQ: 722 Pts
- Yriel - 155 pts
- Farseer W/ Spirit Stones, Runes of Warding, Fortune & Doom - 145 pts
- Warlock X 9 W/ 1 Spiritseer, 2 Embolden, 2 Enhance & 2 Destructor - 297 pts
+ Wave Serpent W/ Twin Sguricans, Spirit Stone, Star Engines - 125 pts

ELITE: 0 Pts
- NONE

TROOP: 753 Pts
- Wraithguard X 10, Spiritseer W/ Conceal - 396 pts
- Guardian Storm X 10 W/ 2 Flamers, Warlock W/ Destructor - 127 pts
 + Wave Serpent W/ Twin Shuricans & Spirit Stone - 110 pts
- Pathfinder X 5 - 120 pts

HEAVY: 275 Pts
- Wraithlord W/ EML, Brightlance & 2 Flamers - 155 pts
- Wraithlord W/ Shurican, Scatter Laser & 2 Flamers - 120 pts

FAST: 0 Pts

TOTAL: 1 750 Pts

38 Models, 2 Vehicles, 2 MCs / 10 KP / 3 Scoring Units

Tactics: Council and Yriel do their thing, Wraithguard either advance supported by the Wraithlords (long range fire or walking by) while the Pathfinders sit on an Objectives or stay in Reserves and Outflank. The Guardians should also start in Reserves, unless good LOS blocking cover can be found and would do well to go support the Council in a later stage of the game.

Alternatively, the Wraithguard and Wraithlords could stay behind an sit on Objective(s), obligating the enemy to advance to get them and thus making themselves vulnerable to an Assault from either the Council or Wraithguard/Wraithlords.
Pathfinder can be kpet back in support or Outflanking to get am Objective. Gudians on Serpent may be kept in Reserves or try to support the defensive setup.

Yriel doesn't need to be with the Council, some opponents doesn't need a power weapon wielding powerhouse to be efficient (IG, Tau, Daemons...) so he may accompaign the Fuardians or footslog it with teh Wraithguard.

LIST 4 (Teal List) - From Starrakatt

HQ: 722 Pts
- Avatar - 155 pts
- Farseer W/ Spirit Stones, Runes of Warding, Fortune & Doom - 145 pts
- Warlock X 9 W/ 1 Spiritseer, 2 Embolden, 2 Enhance & 2 Destructor - 297 pts
+ Wave Serpent W/ Twin Sguricans, Spirit Stone, Star Engines - 125 pts

ELITE: 0 Pts
- NONE

TROOP: 633 Pts
- Wraithguard X 10, Spiritseer W/ Conceal - 396 pts
- Guardian Storm X 10 W/ 2 Flamers, Warlock W/ Destructor - 127 pts
 + Wave Serpent W/ Twin Shuricans & Spirit Stone - 110 pts

HEAVY: 400 Pts
- Wraithlord W/ EML, Brightlance & 2 Flamers - 155 pts
- Wraithlord W/ EML, Scatter Laser & 2 Flamers - 135 pts
- Wraithlord W/ Shurican, Wraithsword & 2 Flamers - 110 pts

FAST: 0 Pts

TOTAL: 1 749 Pts

33 Models, 2 Vehicles, 4 MCs / 10 KP / 2 Scoring Units

Tactics: The resilience force. The Avatar is not meant to be Fortuned, as the Farseer will go with the Council (unless circumstances would ask for it) as neither are the Wraithguard, if the Council is used offensively, but the spaming of high and very high Toughness should keep both relatively safe, especially since a threatening Council is such a 'need to take care of' target.
Again, Guardians should be kept in Reserves or support the Council, Avatar and Wraithlords should advance along with the Wraithguard (Fortuned or not) and put pressure on the enemy lines - Hordes with Flamers (there's MANY of them in there), mech thretened with CC and tough targets combi cgarged with MCs and Council.

As a defensive castle, the Wraithlords, Avatar and Wraithguard are about unshakable, leaving the Serpents, Council and Guardians for contesting/holding Objectives.

LIST 5 (Green List) - From Gutstikk

HQ: 333 pts
- Avatar - 155 pts
- Farseer W/ Jetbike, Fortune, Doom, Sipirit Stones, Singing Spear & Runes of Warding - 178 pts

- Wraithguard X 5, Spiritseer w/ Enhance - 221 pts
 + Wave Serpent w/ Twin-Shuriken Cannon & SpiritStone - 110 pts

TROOP: 704 pts
- Rangers X 5 - 95 pts
- Guardians X 10 w/ Starcannon, Spiritseer w/ Singing Spear & Embolden - 144 pts
- Guardians X 10 w/ Starcannon, Spiritseer w/ Singing Spear & Embolden - 144 pts
 + Wave Serpent w/ Twin-Shuriken Cannon & Spirit Stone - 110 pts
- Jetbikes X 6 w/ 2 Shuricans, Spiritseer biker w/ Embolden & Singing Spear - 211 pts

HEAVY: 380 pts
- Wraithlord w/ WraithSword, Brightlance, 2 Flamers - 140 pts
- Wraithlord w/ WraithSword, Brightlance, 2 Flamers - 140 pts
- Wraithlord w/ WraithSword, 2 Flamers - 100 pts

TOTAL: 1748 pts
12 KPs, four scoring units.

A fair number of decent quality shots for the 14-all-around tanks, good maneuverability and deployment options, and enough spiritseer to keep those wraithlords running.

LIST 6 (Red List) - From moc065

HQ: 765 pts
- Yriel - 155 pts
- Eldrad - 210 pts
- 10 Warlocks, 2 Embolden, 2 Enhance - 290 pts
 + Wave Serpent, Shuri-cannons and Stones - 110 pts

ELITE: 0 pts
- NONE

TROOP: 540 pts
- 10 Wraithguard + 1 Spiritseer with Conceal - 396 pts
- 6 Pathfinders - 144 pts

HEAVY: 370 pts

TOTAL: 1750pts, 34 figures, 2 scoring units 10 KP’s.

LIST 7 (Maroon List) - From Starrakatt

HQ: 365 Pts
- Avatar - x pts
- Eldrad - x pts

ELITE: 234 Pts
Harlequins X 9, Shadowseer, Death Jester, Kisses X 8 - 234 pts

TROOP: 708 Pts
- Wraithguard X 10, Spiritseer W/ Conceal - 396 pts
- Storm Guardians X 10, Flamers X 2 and Warlock W/Destructor - 127 pts
+ Wave Serpent, Twin Shurican, Star Engines - 125 pts
- Dire Avengers X 5 - 60 pts

HEAVY: 440 Pts
- Wraithlord W/ EML & Brightlance - 155 pts
- Wraithlord W/ Shurican & Scatterlaser - 120 pts
- Falcon W/ Shurican, Holofield, Spirit Stone - 165 pts

FAST: 0 Pts
- None

TOTAL: 1747 Pts

10 KP, 3 Scoring Units, 42 Models (including Tank/MC)

Tactics: This one is entirely theoretical, never played that. Usual Eldrad/Avatar combo, adding Wraithguard and/or Harlequins to be Fortuned as opportunity arise.
Basically, a big block of no-go zone with the Guardians and Avengers to get far away Objectives.
Or the entire formation advance, using cover where possible (Wraithlords may benefit from the Avatar to get cover saves) while the Serpent and Falcon hang back (possibly Reserves) or skim flanks to divert attention/score.
Alternatively, if LOS cover is available the Storm Guardians may stay hidden or in Reserves to grab home Objective and the Harlies may use their Serpent (which may be Fortuned).

LIST 8 (Pink List) - From Starrakatt
HQ: 885 Pts
- Asurmen - x pts
- Eldrad - x pts
- Warlock X 10, Destructor X 3, Enhance X 2, Embolden X 2 - 310 pts
+ Wave Serpent, Twin Shurican, Star Engines, Spirit Stone - 135 pts

ELITE: 0 Pts
- None

TROOP: 516 Pts
Wraithguard X 10, Spiritseer W/ Conceal
Avengers X 5 - 60 pts
Avengers X 5 - 60 pts

HEAVY: 345 Pts
- Falcon W/ EML, Spirit Stone, Holofield - 180 pts
- Falcon W/ Shurican, Spirit Stone, Holofield - 165 pts

FAST: 0 Pts
- None

TOTAL: 1 746 Pts

9 KP, 3 Scoring Units, 35 Models (including Tanks)

Tactics: Another try, never tested.

Took Asurmen instead of Yriel for better Save, T and Eternal Warrior, It's basically a KP denial list - Either the Wraithguard get in Cover and stay there (Fortuned if possible) while the Coucil goes mess with enemy lines, or it footslof forward to follow in close firefights/CC, depending of opponent.
Falcons W/ Avengers stay in Reserve and do late Turn grabs on Objectives, or deploy on table and try to kill stuff, again depending on opposition - The Avengers aren't expected to kill stuff.

LIST 9 (Blue List) - From f. desrochers

HQ: 100 pts
- Farseer w/ RoW, Fortune - 100 pts

ELITE: 162 pts
- Harlequins x 6 w/ kisses x 6, Shadowseer - 162 pts

TROOP: 824 pts
- Wraithguard x 10, Spiritseer w/ Enhance - 396 pts
- Dire Avengers x 10, Exarch, Bladestorm, Shimmershield - 162 pts
+ Wave Serpent w/ shuriken cannons, vectored engines, spirit stone - 130 pts
- Guardian Defenders x 10 w/ EML, Spiritseer w/ Embolden - 136 pts

FAST: 174 pts
- Warp Spiders x 6, Exarch, power blades, death spinner upgrade, Withdraw - 174 pts

HEAVY: 435 pts
- Wraithlord w/ brightlance, wraithsword, twin flamers - 140 pts
- Wraithlord w/ brightlance, wraithsword, twin flamers - 140 pts
- Falcon w/ shuriken cannon, holofields - 155 pts

TOTAL: 1 700 pts (50 pts left to spend)
Kill Points: 10
Scoring Units: 3

Tactics:  I've given the Farseer a bare-bones outfitting, with Fortune (for obvious reasons), while the Runes of Warding make a mess of enemy psykers.  I've become a recent convert to this piece of kit; so benign and yet so powerful.  Test on 3D6 and PotW for everything on any roll of 12+..... Along with the Wraithguard they follow my standard tactic, straight up to the middle of the field and park in a piece of terrain, influencing the battlefield around them (a.k.a. Amazing Bubble O' No Armour).  If someone wishes to charge them, I'll likely have Initiative and then likely have the advantage for WS, S and T.

The Defenders stick in cover behind, securing the home quarter or nearby objectives (Embolden likely to pass all morale checks).  I've typically given them Conceal, but found that with all the Cover saves for firing through units, they are better off with Embolden (cheaper) to ensure they stick around after more than one turn of being shot at.  The EML can also reach out and really hurt someone.

Advancing with the Wraithguard, the Wraithlords and Harlies dissuade charges.  One of my favorite combos advancing alongside the Wraithguard is at least one 'Lord and the Harlies.  If the T8 beast doesn't make you think twice, the little guys flirting around his feet will.  Even with the changes to rending attacks, they are well worth their points for the lack of CC specialists elsewhere in the list.  The 'Lord twin flamers are great crowd-control as well.

The Serpent, Falcon (with or without the Harlies) and Spiders make their way up the field and harrass the enemy (whether Refused Flank rush or Hammer and Anvil into the Wraithguard and supporting units).  The Falcon is a recent addition to provide more armour onto the board and "escort" the Serpent around.  The Avengers typically advance around a piece of terrain and then unload, Bladestorming a nearby unit; the Wave Serpent is used to cut-off LOS and charges from one quadrant with the Avengers deal with their targets.  The Falcon and Serpent look for light armour control, along with the Spiders who can also switch to crowd control versus mid-sized hordes and heavy infantry (shooting, charging and then Withdraw).

LIST 10 (Navy List) - From Starrakatt (again...)

HQ: 300 Pts
- Yriel - 155 pts
- Farseer w/ Spirit Stones, Runes of Warding, Fortune & Doom - 145 pts

ELITE: 206 Pts
- Harlequins X 8 w/ 8 Kisses, Shadowseer - 206 pts

TROOP: 773 Pts
- Wraithguard X 10, Spiritseer w/ Conceal - 396 pts
- Guardian Defenders X 10 w/ Scatter Laser, Warlock w/ Embolden & Singing Spear - 125 pts
- Storm Guardians X 10 w/ 2 Flamers, Warlock w/ Destructor – 127 pts
 + Wave Serpent w/ Twin-Shurican, Spirit Stone - 125 pts

HEAVY: 470 Pts
- Wraithlord w/ EML & Brightlance, 2 Flamers - 155 pts
- Wraithlord w/ EML & Brightlance, 2 Flamers – 155 pts
- Fire Prism w/ Holofield & Spirit Stone – 160 pts

FAST: 0 Pts
- NONE

TOTAL: 1749 Pts
- 3 Scoring Units, 10 KP, 47 models (including tanks/MCs)

Tactics:
- Wraithguard does their thing along with Farseer.
- Yriel can ride with the Stormies or just plod along with the WG.
- Defenders get in Cover, ready to Go to Ground if need be, backed up and bacing up (Wraithsight) the Wraithlords.
- Stormies can come in from Reserves for later Objective grab.
- Serpent can be used to lift depleted units, given over to the Harlies if need be - Yriel too - and be uesed to Tabk Shock/Ram where it is needed.
- Wraithlords can walk along the Wraithguard or just plain stand in/behind Cover as a firebase.
- Prism does it's thing, can also be used to Tank Shock/Ram stuff.
- Harlies can ride the Serpent or stay as backup in second line.

Thanks all for your time and criticism,

   Starky
