Converted Wraithguard
« on: April 3, 2008, 06:20:07 AM »
So I've finally given in to my hearts longing, and I'm going to build an Eldar Ghost army.

My only problem is (likie many peoples) the expense of Wraithguard.  I rember seeing pics of some that had been converted from plastic eldar models that looked really good, dso was wondering if someone could send me the link?

Failing that, thinking I may be able to pull off a half decent conversion from Dire avengers.  Figured if I cut the Plume off the helmet, Fill in the front with green stuff to make them smooth.  After that just need to work out how to convert the gun, which shouldn't be too hard.

Has anyone else tried this and had any sucess.

on one of the weapon sprues, there is a sort of curved part that goes onto the back of a weapon, some of those on guardian bodies would look pretty cool i think

EDIT: although you probably have to bulk it up a bit.

I'm doing a similar project just now by using Guardians, except that I won't use them as Wraithguard but as some kind of 'Ghost Warriors' with the 'Count Has' rule.
Dunno as what they will count yet, but since I'm kinda loathing sending 500 hundred years old poets getting slaughtered in CC, I guess I could use them as either Banshees, Scorps or plain Storm Guardians.

I'll take some pics of the current work and post them this evening.

I once contemplated using Tau Steealth suits to represent WG. The have similar size and bulk, and feet/heads. I just bought regular WG off Ebay though and converted them. I also mounted them on 40mm bases to give them a more "terminator" feel.  I have pics around here somewhere of them....
And so, after much wait, BANNED

Late, late-late-late. There's one of my actual project. So far I have 10 models built but only three of the heads done, although I I am not satisfied with the 'beakie' look, so I'm gonna rework them a bit.

The weapon arms are done using the powerfist from the old plastic Guardian sprue and an old Shuricat and Fusion Gun. I didn't use the new 'Cats because the barrel is too long and wanted to have the option of counting them as pistols.

The antenna slots on the backs and intake in front have been filled and I plan to also fill the abdomen 'muscles'. Also I've removed the small waistcloth as I intend to do a full loincloth. Also removed the bits on the legs.

   Sorry for the blurry pics.

Doesn't look to shabby. But the heads could still use a little work.

Yeah, I'm not too fond of them too. I'll try to rework them a bit. Maybe try to make the back of the head more like WG ones.
I'll do my best but I'm not that much used to GS work.

   Anyway, keep you updated.

The biggest problem is the scale, the guardians only stand about 2/3 as high. The previous version Banshees are the only standard Eldar models I know that are of a similar height to the WG. If you go with eBay and are patient you'll get the WG at a decent price.

Yeah, that's why I won't field them as Wraithguard but most probably as Storm Guardians. They should look just fine with a Warlock. :)

I'll try to finish one this week and post the final result. Hope it will come out good.

what im going to try and do is to contact GW and suggest a plastic wraith guard kit similar to how space marines and chaos got plastic terminators from metal ones.

Good luck, they don't listen to thousands of petitioners so I doubt they'll listen but it couldn't hurt.
