feral orks usually lose, becoz they lose some of the decent troops of the  main list and lose speed, hence get shot down.....if u manage to convert a squiggoth , its a different story!

Feral Orks are SUPER fun!!!!!! I love 'em. They do lose alot though, they are actually more of a fun army than a winning army to play. But an experienced player can be very effective, especially if he keeps his boys who got BS3 firing at the right targets. AND if he uses all of his units to there full potential, such as in a feral ork army there is no room for error and cant  just throw them into the fray, if you just run them in they will die soooooooooo fast, you gotta use some tactics. And sply was right with a nice good old friendly squigoth your army becomes EXTREMELY better.

Take it from a feral ork player. (and normal ork player, and soon to be rebel grot player)

I'm an Eldar player who is currently up against a 2000 point Feral Ork army.

This army has got hords of Grots to shield it's Madboyz and three massive Squiggoths. This becomes an almost impossible army to beat - most armies are either "hords of the things" (the meat waves) or are made up of many fewer, very tough unit (like Space Marines). The beat the former you'd use huge amounts of are effect stuff, to beat the latter you'd use much heavier weapons that are much more selective.

This doesn't work if you have 3 Squigs in a Feral army - if you take the heavy weapons to knock out the Squigs, then you'll never be able to destroy the huge number of Orks coming at you waves. If you take area effect stuf, it'll (mostly) just bounce off the Squigs!

It's not "a fun army"! My opponent (who's been wargaming for 12 years) has just started an Ork army. He bought all the figures (including a Basilisk), but after going through all of the Ork rules junked the Basilisk and went with Ferals!

He aranges his army with the Squigs at the front, 70 - 80 Grots in lines behind (becase they're in lines, template weapons will tend to hit some models from all three units, so it's almost impossible to do enough damage to cause a moral check). Behind this he has three units of Madboyz that just can't be shot at because of the Grots. Last but not least he has three Junktrukz at the back, each loaded up with a unit, ready to rush in where needed.

Don't believe them when they say it's not a winning choice - my mate is a pure "power player" and he's taken them by choice!

sounds like fun : ) and man he spent alot on grots, 3 grots = $8 American, 90 grots = 30 packs of them, 30 packs at 8 dollars a pop... geeze $240 worth of grots, and thats only 270 points of his army

If you want something good, you need to invest in them.  Then again, Warhammer 40k is an expensive game.

I think the best way to win with Feral Orks is force your enemy to divide their fire.  Squiggoths or Boyz?  It is a hard question.  Both can deal tremendous damage.  I believe that you should force your enemy to kill one.  For example, if the enemy list is full of Bolters, screen your boyz with Squiggoths.  If the enemy is made of IG tanks, use grots to screen Squiggoths.

Normally, Feral orks don't stand a chance
