Title: Fire Warrior Error
Post by: Balthraka on October 3, 2007, 02:37:50 AM
Hey tech-savvy 40konliners.

I have just repicked up my copy of Fire Warrior off the shelf with the intention of giving it a second chance, but i am unable to play! Whenever i try to run the game i get the error message:

''The Managed DirectX components for Microsoft .NETwere not detected on this machine. This component is included in the Fire Warrior install process - the game cannot run without it. Please re-install from the original CD.''

So i reinstalled from the original CD, but i still get the same errror.
There are no errors during install, just when i hit play.

Any ideas for what the problem could be and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance

Hard to say exactly what the problem is, have you tried grabbing the newest version of directx and updating all your drivers?

Sounds like you need to install .NET framework. Google it or do a search on Microsoft's website to find the installer. It's free, and you shouldn't have any problems with it.

EDIT: You probably want .NET framework 1.1 for something as old as FireWarrior. .NET 2 and 3 are out but sometimes don't work as well as they could with things that need 1.1. You should be OK with the newer ones, but if you have any problems use .NET 1.1.

I just recently re-installed Firewarrior on a recently re-built machine for the same purpose of giving the game another go.  I would second the previous advice and make sure you run your windows updates, get the most recent directX drivers, and good luck.  I had no issues running it once i updated everything to it's most current version, thoughyou may have issues trying to run it on a Vista machine as Vista is a brand new platform and has been causing issues especially with games programmed before it's release... i.e. almost all of them.

Thanks guys.
I managed to get it working (but im not 100% sure how...)

Basically i ran just the secondary CD and manually installed something called dotNET, then i found some patch for the game and i installed that.
Then it ran.

BUT, it only runs if i run the .exe directly...
I cant open it through a shortcut or my start menu. It gives me the same error if i try to...
Weird

Anywho, thanks for the help.

What operating system are you using?  If you have vista or windows 7 you may need to run the game in compatibility mode, basically right click on the launch icon and move to compatibility and select which ever windows operating system the game suggests.

[gmod]2007, I remember it well. Cell phones were the size of dogs and required nuclear batteries to work for more than a few minutes between recharging. We also wore onions on our belts to ward of vampires.[/gmod]
