Title: Autumn Painting Challenge [Month 3/3]
Post by: Kitsune Tsuki on November 2, 2007, 09:45:49 PM
Welcome to the November Painting Challenge. We are now into the 2nd year of these, first under Loydb, Khemri Demon, Serious Callers Only and now me. The goal of this challenge is to get some of that unpainted lead that most of us have laying around table-ready. At the start of each month, participants pledge to have a squad painted by the closing date.

I will update this post with a list of people who wish to vow.

RULES

1. Vows will be frozen 10 days after the start of the challenge. There is no changing of *any* vow after day 10. Say what you'll paint, then paint what you say. If you don't already own the models you want to paint, I suggest not making the vow until you do.  Vows are still accepted after the 10th, but they can not be changed afterward.

2. This is more of a request than a rule. *Please* post work in progress pics if you possibly can. One of the best things about the thread is watching stuff come together.  It's perfectly fine if you don't post any photos, however.

3. I need to know unit sizes when you post your vows.

FAQ
Q: Do I have to do Games Workshop figs?
A: No. Several people make Warmachine vows, myself included.  Feel free to do vows based on any game system.

Q: I need to change my vow!
A: You have until Day 10 of the month.

Q: What if I don't have a camera?
A: We operate on the honor system. If you say you did it, we believe you. There are no prizes, so you only get the satisfaction of lying on the internet if you choose to do so.

Q: Will you do one of these every month?

A: That's the goal. Assuming the board manages to stay up

Q: Hey, what if we finish our vow but decide to paint more?
A: Paint away! If you mean, can you get a head start on next month, I guess so. But it's kind of cheesy to make a vow with a 75% painted unit at the start of the month...

I'm going to go ahead and just vow one leman russ battle tank, as that should be easier than multiple guardsmen to finish, right?

The Baneblade project continues this month.

Since the assembly is complete, I also vow:

10 Imperial Guardsmen.

So 1 Baneblade, 10 troops, and oh, why not...a Baneblade commander as well.

im not sure i should be making a vow this month what with a few assignements for uni coming up soon and my inherant lazyness recently.... within the last month ive only completed about 4 models for an IG army  :'( which is just pittiful

any way i reluctantly and lazily vow to paint...

3 Ogryns, and one heavy weapons team

admittidley i have about 8 HW in WIP at the moment so i feel bad only doing one but hey....

I'm going to vow to do 3 jetbikes and a vyper. Probally not going to get it done to be honest, but maybe this will give me a reason to get it done. If I do manage that, I'll do more jetbikes :).

Put me down for a Shadowseer and a Falcon.  I may paint other stuff, but this is what I want to get done.

EDIT: I've changed my mind, I want to do the shadowseer still, but I would like to do 2 hounds of chaos, Prince Yriel and a chaos champion.

1... I vow to finish the 6 Harlequins I started 2 months ago.... 2/3 done already but I gotta get motivated.

2... I vow to finish the Autarch on Jetbike I converted and started to paint months ago.... 1/3 done the paint, and since I really do like using the unit, I should get him done.

I need support on this one guys, as I have not touched a brush in over a month... ever since I started to build a 1K Khorne army and a 1K Necron army, and decided to convert all fo the figures.....

Cheers and Happy Gaming.

Started to work on it Huron,
(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg153.imageshack.us%2Fimg153%2F9946%2Fdscn4884zi2.th.jpg&hash=8c9961d8e797ca93b868809a11ff582bf1501591) (http://img153.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dscn4884zi2.jpg)
the ordo malleus was allready painted when i bought it. i liked the armour color but not the rest so i am in the process of changing that. although i fixed him on a bigger base and painted that, the chaos rhino plate was put there because the original figure leans to much forward.

I guess I should finish another of my brothers IG squads.

This is before the end of the month right?  I vow to paint the rest of my Ogre Kingdoms Army (and by army, I mean 500 points  :P) apart from my Bruiser (whom I will try and finish converting).

I'd say my Baneblade is about 90% done. Should finish it tomorrow.

edit

yup I finished it today. I should post pictures sometime Friday, will also show some snap shots of the Macharius I did last month since I was too lazy to post em.

I'm having real trouble getting motivated this month.  I put together the shadowseer and the two dogs I'd had lying around.  I've looked at the Falcon and haven't done more than that.  I'm sure I can get it done if I put some solid hours in, it's just getting the bloody things primed that's causing me trouble.  It's getting pretty warm around here and I can't be bothered going outside to do it.  We'll see though.

Myung, coming along very nicely as usual.  Jehan, those guys look fantastic.

I got 5 termagants' carapaces all painted up nicely, but when I started to do the skin, I realized that my crappy brush would make it extremely hard, so I've stopped until I can get a new brush or two.

No pics, cause I can't find my camera...

I put some finishing touches on my vow. I still have to base it but I liked how he turned out. When I get some more units done for my army, I’ll come back and add some freehand to it. This pics aren’t great but here they are.

Woohoo!  I painted something this month.  I finished my bokor and my raptor.  The raptor still needs basing, but that's more or less trivial.  I'm happy now.  The phrase 'Out of sight, out of mind.' is true, and not very helpful.  Just putting models on the table helps my motivation.

Finished another deathwatch marine.

Brother Maksim of the Marauders seconded to the Deathwatch:

I've made some progress on the last marine in my vow, but I'm out of town for the rest of this week, so finishing before the end of the month could be a bit tight.

Thanks for the compliment. It’s a Crone World equivalent of a Wraithlord. I was testing out my abilities to convert metal and some limited sculpting. Now I know what I can do so my second one should be even better.

The bright lance is removable and interchangeable with other heavy weapons. The EML rifle is removable. It has a loose chain shoulder strap and slips right on and off.

So A Levels are almost over, and I've been getting back to work on painting. Presenting the Master of Recruits:

I recognize that the cape wasn't done as well as I would have preferred, and that I'm in urgent need of a better camera. And that I need to touch up on my metallics and some bits of armour. Funny how you only notice these things now.

I prolly wont make it due to lack of motivation, I instead starting converting marines which I had lying around in my bit box and painting one of those. [Pics to follow about that though. .] Aside of that I have the pressure of a upcoming tournament for my battle group which means I am rather helping out them painting their armies when needed instead of my own.

I am sucking very hard at this vow, I believe I won't be finishing.  I did manage to prime the shadowseer and the falcon (mostly) but putting paint brush to miniature is going to fail I believe.  I actually have some work, which is a bit of a shock, and heaps of friends are moving out of college, so I've been partying a lot.

Enough excuses, I'm just weak!  Good stuff though, guys.

i dont think i will be finishing this vow... not with 4 days left lol... maybe but i dont have the motivation right now

you must finish your vows!

PAINT PAINT PAINT

just pretend that you're on a gameshow and if you can finish painting your mini before the buzzer goes off that the big ol game show door will open revealing beer and woman as prizes or whatever else fills your boat!

My Harlequins are done, and so is my Bone Singer; but I don not see the Autarch on Jetbike getting completed in the next 4 days (as I will not comprimise on the quality at this stage in the game).

Threfore I forecast that I will only get 2/3 of my vows done; but at least I did that much and considering I hadn't touched my paints for a while, thank you for the motivation to get back into it.

I didn't finish my vow because I left for Chile on the 15th, but when I get back in January I will come home to a vast host of CSM and Tyranids that I ebayed while away...

And I really like that Huron, I'm going to try to replicate the effect with my ~72 Berzerkers, that is, make sure the black between details is very defined, it gives it a gothic feel, which I like.

Kudos.

Well, in light of your pep-talk, Myung, I've actually sat down and done some painting.  I've done some work on my shadowseer, which is now most of the way done.  Unfortunately my camera is not working at the moment so I can't take any photos.

I must say it's looking bleak, but I'll try.

EDIT: got some more done, but no photos, I do however have this one.

(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi163.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ft285%2FRazzrojo%2FShadowseerWIP001.jpg&hash=613e2a001c5dfdf74399dab4fba2e64f1d341618)

It's a fail from me, not too bad of a strike record though.

Gah , I report a humiliating fail too . Too much army building and internet are to blame ! Only got 4 FW's finished , 4 about 60% done , and 4 are about 30% done . Not even got the base problem sorted . Next month I must try harder , this army needs to be painted for early Feb  :'( .

Laugh at me please , the extra humiliation will be usefull as a motivational tool ...

I've finished half of my vow; I got 5 termagants done.  Still can't find my camera, so can't post pics, but there's no way I'll finish the other 5 to a standard I am happy with by the end of Friday.

I didn't realize how much time it can take for 10 termagants, it's been so long since I've painted on my little things.  So it's my fault for making too big of a vow for my first one in a month that was, to put it nicely, "really hectic".
