40k prayers
« on: February 4, 2009, 04:50:42 PM »
40k has very strong religious themes, but unfortunately there is a dearth of complete, cool-sounding prayers and "responsive readings".  I wonder if anyone here has written some good catechism-like stuff (the sort of thing that a chaplain might chant back and forth with the troops before battle).

As inspiration, I have provided the following example (adapted from Psalms 45):

-- A Space Marine Psalm --
You are fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into your lips, for the Emperor has blessed you for ever.  Gird your sword upon your thigh, O most mighty, and in your majesty ride prosperously in truth and meekness and righteousness; and your right hand shall teach you terrible things.  Your arrows are sharp in the hearts of the Emperor's enemies; whereby they fall under you.  All your armaments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, where they have been sanctified.  The throne of the Emperor is for ever and ever: the sceptre of his kingdom is matchless.  Give thanks to the Emperor of man, and fight!

I think it could work, depending on the Chapter, they all have diffing personalities.

Quote

I would edit this a little.  Ammo and the like come from either the Ad Mech or Tech-Marines, who are buddies with the Ad Mech.  Either way, I can't see artifacts of the Machine God being blessed with plant material, like aloe.  Machine God stuff is usually blessed with sacred machine oil and the like.

Welcome to the forum.  Sorta, since you registered in September, but have not posted since.  I do hope to see you more in the background forum, we need all we can get.

"I Deny The Ruinous Powers, and I will not suffer the Witch, the Mutant or Heretic to live.

I Believe in the God-Emperor, Him on Terra, who United Mankind under his auguring quest, and Ventured on the Great Crusade.
I Believe in the God-Emperor, Who was Betrayed by Horus, the Favoured Son and afterwards Thousandfold Cursed.
I Believe in the God-Emperor, who Ascended the Golden Throne, to Guide and Protect Humanity, and gave His Divine Mandate to the High Lords of Terra, so that they may rule until His return and in His Name, of which the sweetest of hymns are made.
I Believe in the Imperial Creed, and all the Imperial Laws, and I swear upon the Golden Throne itself to Abide by them.

His is the Name of Order and Justice, His is the Reign of Glory. Ours is the Gift of His Providence. We give thanks in the Milliards every day, so that His Heritage may Endure until He comes Again. We sing His Praise in the Basilikas and on the Fields of Battle on a Million Unknown Worlds.

Amen."

This sounds like a catechism not that it is done. :) Cheers!

Our Emperor who art in Terra, Hallowed be thy name. Your empire come, your will be done, on Cadia as on Terra. Give us this day our daily battle cannon ammo. Purge us of our sins, as we purge those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from chaos.
(A 40k'd version of the Lords prayer)

or

"Dear Emperor, I have suffered not the witch, the heretic or the mutant to live, please upgrade my crew's ballistic skill"
What I cannot crush with words, I shall crush with the tanks of the Imperial Guard!
