Flames of Tzeentch and Mobility
« on: August 7, 2002, 04:38:20 PM »
There seems to be some confusion about whether or not Terminator armor allows you to move and fire the Flames of Tzeentch like any other heavy weapon.

There are two different sides to the opinions. The first says that the armor is so thick and heavy that a sorceror could concentrate enough even while moving
to use Tzeentch's most powerful battlefield spell. The other side says that because the power is used during the movement phase, it cannot be done.

I turned to the AOL GW community (hosted by Tim Huckleberry, a fine chap indeed). He said that he thought the answer was NO (that they cannot move and fire), but he forwarded the question to the Roolzboyz.

Today I got two seperate responses from the Roolzboyz, and I'll post them here for your perusal:

"No. Flames of Tzeentch is fired in the movement phase instead of moving, not in the shooting phase." - Steve Grohowski, Hobby Specialist.

"Yep!  It's because the armor is soooo huge and mechanized that it's like the model is walking around in a tank." Tim Commo, Hobby Specialist.

So while I wait for an even more official answer from GW...what are your opinions?

Unless you have a staff of tzeentch(which only Daemonprinces can have) the Flames of Tzeentch is fired INSTEAD of moving. No moving that is.

But all know that you can fire flames of tzeentch in the movement phase and then fire another weapon in the shooting phase.
Deathball, the new game of bloody basketball, 40k style!

+++Excerpt from Last Chaos/Space marine game, commentator: Inquisitor Khalheed "The Purgator" Qhor, Ex-Deathball player+++

Chaos vs Space Marine grudgematch today ended 23-19 when Brother Grazieel decimated the chaos team with a heavy bolter.

Afterwards the Chaos Coach Zhuriel the Damned stated "If we weren't ideologically in favor of cheating we'd complain about this""

I posted this question on a differant message board and got some differant answers such as:

No, the sorcere must concentrate so he cannot move.

No,  there is a reason Term's cannot take a Lascannon.

Yes,  Psychic powers that you shoot are treated like weapons.  Since it is heavy and Term's can move and fire heavy weapos it is ok.

It doesn't matter, the Flames is being replaced by the  Bolt of Change in the new codex.(I think he misinterpreted the WD article)

In my opinion it all comes down to can you move and fire it in the same phase?  To me it is obviose you could fire it and move if was done in two differant phases, but its not.  I would hope you could do it(since I play Tzeentch), but I'm not sure.

I think the most logical word that I've heard is that since you use the Flames of Tzeentch is PLACE of moving, not simply during the movement phase, you can't.

That's the problem, Chenotai. I did just that, and I got two different answers.

I spoke with Tim Huckleberry, head of customer serv., and he said that he would forward the question onto the UK guys for clarification, and that he'd deal with the two guys who replied to my question.

Once I have a response, I'll post it.
