Replacements for GW inks?
« on: May 15, 2016, 01:17:15 AM »
Sooo along time ago Citadel colour put out an "ink" and "wash" range, it was the era of clear hex pots with black flip top lids.

The new "Shades" are not in the same colours as the ink's I'm after.

Can any one recommend an alternative to "Flesh Wash" and "chestnut ink".

Google for Coat d'Arms. Their range of paints/inks IS the old GW range and great for getting hold of the colours GW no longer makes.  :)

I've been searching for a straight replacement to the old GW Blue and Red inks for years to no avail, Coat d'arms is the company that GW used to use to make the citadel paints but their blue and red inks are nothing like the old GW ones which were more like a very thick glaze. Can't say I've ever tried their version of flesh wash but I'd be interested, my old hex pot won't last forever haha

Chestnut Ink is comparable to Reikland Flesh Shade, in that it's a light-to-mid brown with reddish tones mixed in. I find it's great for shading red.

I can't remember if flesh wash was a dark brown or not. If it's a dark brown [nearing to black] then Agrax Earthshade should work well.

I picked up Agrax Earthshade as it looked brown before I posted, sadly no where near the right colour. It comes out more like a dead earth than a rich heathly brown if that makes any sens.

hmm having trouble finding a Coat d'Arms supplier down here :(

Absolutely does! I wash it straight over sand for my "wasteland" bases.
