Col.Gravis' Sometimes Updated Hobby Thread
« on: July 15, 2009, 02:42:59 PM »
I'll use this thread to track various project I'm working on at any one time.

Work on a pith helmetted head sprue is underway proper, this is an early WIP version, no jaw or mouth(!), it's actually had quite a few changes to it now, I was'nt happy with the left eye or the original mouth which I did after this picture so both are changed now, I'll get some more pics of that soon. The helmet meanwhile is a cast of a single master that I'll be using for all the heads on the sprue, once finished the sprue will have 5 heads, two clean shaven mouths shut, two clean shaven shouting and one bearded as well as a spare Pith Helmet, they'll be cast up in resin and be available for order.

I've also agreed to take on a commission for a squad of Praetorian Ogryns, I've a couple on the go of which this is one, early WIP.

Ehm, is that Ogryn a female? Certainly looks like a female Ogryn to me.

Seriously though, that is some nice GS work.  How did you get the smooth finish?

Bit of an update on the heads, this is infact the second one, the previously posted one is underoing a bit of a more drastic change.

Black Dahlia, it's just a matter of fine tuning, I tend to use a combination of a straight edges clay shaper and a scapel for straight edges, the former again for the smooth finish.

I just thought of something about the Praetorian Ogryns. How about making some Praetorian shirts and helments for them. I can't wait to see what you are going to do with their guns.

Exactly what the customer has asked for, they'll be a mixtures of bare chested, vests and two types of tunic, some done up som open, as well as some with pith helmets, some without.

LOL they'll b plenty of bobby options ;)

@ Col. Gravis: Are you still looking for Gatling type bits? I just found out that Askri released a gatling gun. However, I'm not sure about it's size ... it could be for the 25mm miniature range. You might have to check that.

Another quick update, some of my own stuff this time as I've just finished the conversions on some new Sergeants to replace my Lasgun armed one's for the newest codex - yeah I know it's been out a while now but I'm a slow hobbyist at the best of times and I don't have half as much time as I'd like for working on them ;)

I've done 6 for the time being, for each squad of my two up till now finished Platoons, the other platoons will have to wait until I've got my GT army ready.

And then these are my favourite three, they're all fairly simple conversions, some more so then others, but I'd sooner these then just using the stock sergeant models as are - they're my Junior Officers.

This one is based on the Bugler model.

This one the stock Sergeant model with Chainsword, the simplist of the lot.

And finally this one, probably one the most extensive of these models based on a Lasgun armed model (normally held across the body in the left arm).
