I just got my Eldar back out to play with. The first thing I have done is to start painting again. Here is my Hornet.

Hi all,

New to the forum so I thort I would share my army with you. I have been playing 40K for many years and have a Space Wolves and Tyranid army. I was watching the TV series Rome a couple of years ago and thort to myself "Gee, the Roman Legions have alot in common with Dire Avengers" (mohawks etc) and before I knew I was inspired to start a new army, using the Red, Gold and white scheme of the Romans!

I bort the Battalion Box to get me started and was gifted some older models by a friend who painted them as a kid, so I got them soaking in acetone and got to painting. I am not the worlds greatest painter and there are a few units that I have not finished off (as you can see in the pics) but I am making steady progress.

The eventual color scheme kinda happened by accident - I was painting the Serpent and had just finished the gold bits when I started to put a coat of Red Ink on the hull, due to my laziness, there was alot of metal flecks in the water, this gave the ink that gold metallic sheen - I liked it so much I continued it on the rest of the army!  8)

I tried to tie the Aspect Warriors onto the army by using the gold helmets while trying to stay true to their 'normal; schemes.

Still to paint is 1x Vyper, a unit of Swooping Hawks and Dark Reapers as well as finishing the units that I have started!. Anyway, here are my Roman inspired Eldar!

Karandras and his Scorpions

Farseer and almost finished Autarch

Jetbikes & Vypers

Wraithlord and Wave Serpent

Fire Dragons

Hope you enjoy!

Tisk tisk Khorne25, thats not what TES maps are used for! That said, the maps have gone down hill since the days of Morrowind...

Anywho, everything looks quite nice. Every time i see a good looking spread on here i contemplate buying a decent camera to finally get some pictures of my own up... then i remember how cheap i am.

Thanks brother. Putting all the other armies aside for now. Paint up my Eldar, playing with just them and start getting ready for the spring "ard boyz fantasy.

Go back and modify the first post rather than double posting. Its something newer posters miss all the time with the rules, but it saves everyone some headache, and keeps the Mods from getting grumpy :P

Very solid paint job though, i particularly like the mix of cold and warm colours.

My Eldar army, Iyanden themed. This 2000+ points army was painted few years ago but I have made some repainting every now and then.

Firstly Avatar. Nothing special here, the "80's glam rock hair" has been replaced with WHFB horse's tail.

Prince Yriel. Friend of mine painted this for me.

Bonesinger which I'm using as a Farseer. He has High Elf sword and shield.

Vyper with EML.

Dark Reapers, old models. Minor gun modification for Exarch.

Rangers/Pathfinders. Half old models, half newer ones.

Fire Dragons. Same as above, half old models, half newer ones.

Striking Scorpions painted with Scorpion green and Hawk turquoise. Old metal models.

Approximately 40 Guardian. Basic Iyanden theme ´though knees are also blue. I use the Shadow weaver as a D-cannon sometimes. I couldn't find Starcannons and Brightlance platforms when these picture were taken.

I've made a pirate bodyguard unit for Yriel from Dire avenger and Wood elf leftover parts. I use them as Harlequins.

Dire Avengers.

Wave serpent, "the banana wagon".

Falcon 1.

Falcon 2.

Wraithlord with EML and Lance.

Same as above. Hive tyrant's head was painted with Kraken colours to remind Iyanden's former battles.

Jetbike squadron.

Seer with jetbike. Can be used as a Farseer, Warlock or Spiritseer.

Farseer in a duel.

Whole army.

Thanks for viewing and Happy new year!

I like the Dire Avengers scheme and the Banshee, the other ones not so much.
And very nice work on the Avatar.
sure you have an opinion,
but my swordplay is better than your´s

Take my advice, I never use it.

Agreed. The Avenger and Banshee schemes are excellent. I also think the Warp Spider works quite nicely, although that part of the photo is a little too dark to tell.

The scorpion might work with a darker green on the armour plates, in fact I think it would work nicely.

The Fire Dragon is a tiny bit vomit inducing though, sorry!

All of them could do with a shade or a highlight to make the armour pop a little more, but their a really nice start. I actually use a similar scheme with my aspect warriors, but in my case it's a bone undersuit with a sepia wash, and I've gone for craftworld colours on the armour, in my case, Alaitoc blue.

I do really like the fact that although aspect warriors have quite contrasting colours, you've managed to tie them all together with a common scheme, which I don't think enough people do, so gj with that!

I agree, the spider theme has quite some potential.
Besides I really over-locked the Reapers, you did, and those  nice as well.

Like Looshkin I have the most problems with the Dragons and the scorpions. And do agree here as well, some massive highliting and shadows could change a lot.

Glad you like the banshee, it is my favorite out of the mix, though the shadow in the pic does not do the reaper justice as I had hoped. *shrug*

I think I Agree about darkening the scorpion, I thought this looked a little bright, but I just ran with it because it was "scorpion green" lol

Other than highlights and maybe some ink work, any specific suggestions on how I can make the Dragon less vomit inducing?

Yeah, the reaper is a touch too dark to tell, but I think that he probably works quite well...at least my eyes weren't drawn to him in a WTF??!!! way! The darker colours tend to offer a more subtle approach, and that is when your colour scheme really works nicely.

I think I Agree about darkening the scorpion, I thought this looked a little bright, but I just ran with it because it was "scorpion green" lol

I drew the same conclusion first time I painted any Scorps...but don't throw the pot away, as it's a lovely highlight over something deeper, like Caliban Green (Formerly Dark Angels Green).

Other than highlights and maybe some ink work, any specific suggestions on how I can make the Dragon less vomit inducing?

Go darker. Orange is a really difficult colour to use well. The GW Dragons work because they have darker shading in the recesses, and there is only 1 main colour to the model. The cream undersuit is too light to support another light colour. Maybe if you tried taking the dragon to a red colour, maybe even as far as Khorne/Scab red and highlight back up to orange, that would work. Just looking at the model again, the colour that you used on the muzzle/magazine of the weapon (I'm guessing Blood/Evil Suns red), provides a far more muted contrast and as such, could be a good bet.

I also must apoloigise as I didn't comment on your avatar. WHile I think that you could do with a little shading/highlighting on the bone coloured parts, I think that you've done a really nice job on that guy. I think that colour distribution is nice, and the 'hot' parts look great. Keep it up, gj!
