Here's a few things I've either used sprues for, or seen them used for:

If I come up with other ideas, will add them later!

Necron army (spruecon),
Crystals,
Dwarf weapons,
Edges of movement trays,
Paint steering,.
When the Biel-tan fled there home worlds they left behind many living people on many worlds, however unknown to them a world survived unharmed and unchanged there name was forever changed to Althan.

Stirring?  ???

And,
scratch-built Ork vehicles;
scratch-built Thunderfire Cannon;
corner posts for any scratch-built vehicle or building using plasticard;
railroad tracks;
pintle mounts for various guns (I've used them for this on many occassions.).

I have used Sprue to build caves for my Tomb Spyders (as well as Crystals for all my Necrons bases)... I also love the Spruecons; but I am not quite insane enough to do all that. I am currently building a Tomb Spyder form left overs, and his legs happen to be Sprue (arms will me too)..I did use sprue to re-enforce the corners of my Paper-Lith though... Tomb Spider and paper-lith shown below...

Stretching out a Landspeeder to be my Rhino-Copter (doesn't fly for game purposes, but it has all the hatches and weapons and is the right size for a Rhino... and looks nice).. Look in the floor, as I build the entire section from sprue...

There are probably 1 million and 1 uses for Sprue.. I use it all the time for terrain stuff (plants, bricks, wall re-enforcements, etc)... as well as many modeling items from simple Weapon Convertions right up to entire builds of a figure... The sky is the limit when it comes to sprue.

Cheers

just a follow up, trying that plant thing with the sprues and it does look pretty good, steady hands and a sharp blade are imperative lol.

And to the previous poster.  Any pointers on that rhino copter?  I think I could use that concept for a homebrewed valkyrie for my IG army, so I'd love some tips from you.  Thanks in advance.

When you work with Srue, gets lots to start with (lots)... then cut up a load into the longer straight bits... and trim off all the bits sticking out with clippers... after that use a sharp knife and then a large file to finish cleaning up the bits sticking out so that you have really nice straight pieces to work with...

Then if you glue then one to one (flipping every second one over) you will get a nice solid and straight platform that is sturdy and looks like the bottom of the Landspeeder (rippled)...

Cut it to the shape(s) you need, and build away. Also use more sprue on inner egdes to strengthen them... For cutting the Speeder, try to work with one thats not already assembled... chop just behind the cockpit and use a Razor Saw if you have one, as its a long cut to make otherwise... once you have it stretched out, you will need more sprue to build a top frame, and I used Rhino Top doors (so they actually open/shut); but most anything would work (plastic card, cereal box, etc)... For the rotor, I used the lid of an old 5 gallon pail, draw it up first, and use tin snips if you have them (saves time)

Cheers

big thanks.  I think I'll try this after work slows down (new year).
