Topic: Scratch build deff-dread and killa kans

With my Azreal's land raider crusader having temporarily stalled, I have decided to start work on another project.
I have recently started collecting orks and like every mad-doc ork boy feel i need some more dakka.
I have just finished a straight from the box stompa and decided that he needs some friends in the shape of at least one dread and a couple of killa kans, but im not overly fond of the current GW models for them so im scratch building them.

This is the start of the main body of the dread. I have used the boss pole emblem from the stompa as a "face" for my dread and bits i had lying around for the body.

and from the back, i used a shoulder guard from stompa as a plate at the back. will do engine and exhaust pipes later....

Lots of greenstuff to make it look like its made of different sheets of metal to give it that orky feel.

Been working on the legs for the dread using some random bits from the imperial builings frame, hatch from a rhino etc.

Also note the hatch and chain detail on the top. I wanted it to look like the ork controller had been chained inside to make sure that it wouldn't pull itself from the machinery in a blood frenzy.

I love it so far.  What are you going to use to make the weapons?

hmmmmm yes that is the question. im not too sure on that at the moment. was thinking of going with all CC weapons for the dread. ?

Ok so i tried to make the weapons for the dread, scratch but i wasnt sure where to begin for the CC weapon so i went out and purchased a dread.... i know i'm not keen, but i wanted to use it to figure out my weapons.

but looking in the box i realised i had made a little scale error when building mine....



and as it turns out the killa kan i have just started is the same size roughly as the box dread.....



so i am going to continue with both scratch builds and end up with 2 dreads and a mega-dread (using the rules for a regular dread) , just need to make the weapons now. lol
