Eldar colour scheme ideas?
« on: April 17, 2006, 10:48:06 AM »
Hi!

I'm looking for a nice colour scheme for my new Eldar army. The problem is, I already had one (http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/2086/eldarvoor9ut.jpg), and I was very happy about it, but I can't find the colours back that I used...it happens every time that I use camo green: on the first mini, I find exactly the perfect colour, but on the second I just can't find it anymore. This time I even wrote down how I mixed my paint, but still it doesn't work out like it should.

So now I'm looking for a new colour scheme :).
Do you guys have any ideas for a cool scheme I could use? I want it to be quite grim, not too "we're Eldar and we're part of a travelling circus"-like. I think I'll do something with red, but I don't yet know what other colours to use...

I should also mention: absolutely no yellow! I think yellow is one of the ugliest colours ever invented, so I'm not going to use it... :)
And the same goes for bright orange.

Nevermind the above, I've decided to go for red.
The undersuit will be black, the armour red, the weapons black I think, and the gems and stuff blue or green.

And maybe I'll use the "mottled" effect you can see on Eavy Metal's Alaitoc guardians, but I just don't know how to do it yet. I've tried just painting Blood Red motifs over a black undercoat, and then layering a lot of Red Gore glazes over that, but that takes quite a long time. Does anyone know a fast way to achieve this effect?

How about blood red stippled over a red gore base coat? That could work.

Worth a try anyway. Sorry I can't be of more definite help.

As I said, red with black goes quite well. You should also check out some Saim-Hann pictures, who look quite cool, or browse Coolminiornot for a while.

This is quite cool: http://ca.games-workshop.com/news/cn/events/GT-2003-CN/Toronto/coverage/40k/James_Woodcock/gallery.htm

You got my vote for Red, I like to black as a base, then Scab Red, shaded with Blood Red, highlighted with Fiery Orange and a coat of Red Ink over everything to make it pop. Check out my website for pictures and good luck in your endeavours.

Cheers and Happy gaming.

You could go completely wicked and unique getting you into more work then you'd ever dream or bargained for but getting t3h coolest result possible by stipling each model in brass or burnished gold and using ink to get the red on. Metallic red with hints of gold etc. using black gloss helmets and clear white runes.

Sounds unique indeed, but I have no idea what such a scheme would look like :).
I think I'll just stick to my black/red/purple idea...

Ever seen west coast customs at work? pimp my Eldar?

Think of colourflip beat metalic gold/red  ;D

I have a model painted up in that colour and could send you a piccie of it.
It looks good and is actually less work then it sounds like.
You should really save up these foamy thingies that come in blisters. They are holy recource for painting stuff

The foam is sometimes using for the mottling effect, effectively, you sponge paint on the red over the black (or whatever colors he was talking about using). It's alot easier and more uniform than trying to dab a brush onto a model.

Then again, I dont particularly like the mottled look myself, looks like sponge painting on a wall, but if you decide to do mottled, he's right, thats generaly the easiest way to do it.

Also, if you dont have and dont want to buy a blister, i know any brush/hardware store will sell foam brushes for painting (probably more for a house) but you could trim it to size.

Cool :).
But I've decided to just paint red, without the mottled look, so I'll save this idea for another time...
