Autumn Painting Challenge [Month 1/3]
« on: September 1, 2009, 03:35:37 AM »
Welcome to the Autumn Painting Challenge! We are now into the 3rd year of these, first under Loydb, Khemri, Serious Callers Only, Ffarquhar, Khemri again and now me. The goal of this challenge is to get some of that unpainted lead or plastic that most of us have laying around table-ready. At the start of each month, participants pledge to have a squad painted by the closing date.

I will update this post with a list of people who wish to vow.

So how does this work?

1. Vows will be frozen 10 days after the start of the challenge. There is no changing of *any* vow after day 10. Say what you'll paint, then paint what you say. If you don't already own the models you want to paint, I suggest not making the vow until you do.  Vows are still accepted after the 10th, but they can not be changed afterwards.

2. This is more of a request than a rule. *Please* post work in progress pics if you possibly can. One of the best things about the thread is watching stuff come together.  It's perfectly fine if you don't post any photos, however.

3. I need to know unit sizes when you post your vows.

FAQ

Q: Do I have to do Games Workshop figs?
A: No. Feel free to do vows based on any game system.

Q: I need to change my vow!
A: You have until Day 10 of the month.

Q: What if I don't have a camera?
A: We operate on the honour system. If you say you did it, we believe you. There are no prizes, so you only get the satisfaction of lying on the internet if you choose to do so.

Q: Will you do one of these every month?
A: That's the goal. Assuming the board manages to stay up.

Q: Hey, what if we finish our vow but decide to paint more?
A: Paint away! If you mean, can you get a head start on next month, I guess so. But it's kind of cheesy to make a vow with a 75% painted unit at the start of the month...

Q: But wait, isn't it summer?
A: Yes, yes it is. However, we must respect our crazed brothers in the northern hemisphere. They started this, after all.

It's been almost a year since I have done a vow. In fact I took about a 8 month break from the hobby all togther after a horrible apoc game just took the wind out of my obsession.

Getting the lil bit of the urges back and have played a few games in the last few weeks and did a mass building session and put togther 180 Orks and some vehicles in 2 days.

But what am I going to vow you ask?

10 Man Blood Angels Assault Squad is all for this month. Going to tip toe my way back into the vows.

Good to  see some old names still doing the vows (points fingers at Serious, Valar and Robin)

9,000 pts Eldar - Alaitoc - 6,500 pts Blood Angels
8,000 pts Imperial Guard - 3,000 pts Tryanids
3,000 pts Sisters of Battle - 4,000 pts Orks
2,000 pts Chaos - 1 Massive Crack Addiction

Vows updated. Good to see some familiar faces returning  :)

Been working on the Nobs which were about 50% done to start with - this month is going to be mostly tidying up stuff that's partly done and been sitting around for ages. They're almost ready for ink, just need to tidy up the main colours a bit.

Nobs are finished. I've part-assembled the Meks and Burnas, but I've left the weapon arms off and the heads off the Burnas since they're going to obscure too much of the model underneath.

I vow  5 dire avengers
We passed upon the stairs. He spoke of was and when. Although i wasn't there, he said i was his friend. which came as a surprise

I spoke into his eyes "I thought you died alone, a long long time ago."

He laughed "Oh no, not me, we never lost control, you're face to face, with the man who sold the world"

The rhino is practically complete - only transfers and choosing a name to go. Still yet to commence properly on the Land Raider. Ordinarily I'd be tempted to add a few more models to the vow, but i'm in the middle of buying my first house, and my wife has been muttering darkly about packing the damn toys away....

grrr... disaster!!   My cat knocked over all my paints, while some were being used...   As a result I am now out of all the greys, metals, and browns that I need to finish my guard...

Vows updated. Made a little bit of progress on the Meks but mostly been clipping, cleaning and assembling Space Hulk models the last few days  :)

I'm a little bit late with this but vows are now locked - you can still make vows, you just can't change them.
