Given you were not overly happy with Daughters of Khaine, I'd suggest you watch some games where Dark Eldar is being played as there is a lot of cross over between Dok and DE.

I play both. I just took on a game against ad mech Saturday night and won. DE play really well now. Combos are key as well as a good draw on tactical objectives. Choosing the right obsession for your playstyle is essential and the right artifact. As far as play between 40k and AoS, DE definitely better.

Well, let me explain... I didn't really take to DoK more due to the lack of their unit diversity, and in more combination with their play-style. It's not that they hit hard and fast (as I love idoneth, who do that well), but basically they are a horde army that has only a few units... and even fewer of those units are considered worthwhile. Doomfire warlocks are only okay, Medusae is only okay, Blood Stalker (Melusai Archers) aren't that great, Lifetakers are situational... what does that leave us with?

A not very interesting roster, in my opinion.

I love the Drukhari because of their labyrinthine options. There are three different distinct ways of playing them, and playing them well. Then you can get even more unique combinations by combining those play-styles into different ones.

I don't mind the glass, lightning fast cannon as a play-style.

While I agree that there is some crossover between DoK and DE, I think there's a lot of differences that make DE quite a different case.

Appreciate both of the opinions given, guys :).

Two of my friends play salamanders and they love them. Apparently the special thing-a-mabob they get is pretty spectacular. Unfortunately I haven't got to play against either of them. If you decide to go this way, even if you end up not liking their rules, changing to a different chapter is easy enough. I'll play against one next week and see how they work against my DE. I'll try to remember to post a bat rep.

Marines are a safe place to start; they are easy to get a hold on, and you can transfer a lot of the units between different codices (Blood Angels, Space Wolves, Dark Angels, and the codex "compliant" ones) with just a paintjob (or no extra work if you do up a custom chapter). This allows you to adjust to the meta (you were planning to play competitive IIRC), without having to invest in a new army.

DE are cool; a buddy of mine has played them since as long as I've known him and they are always fun to play against. I've used a DE army (of his) during a doubles tournament and enjoyed using it (I've faced them so many times I knew most of the rules and tactics anyway). We did quite well but it wasn't a cutthroat tournament by any means, so I'm not sure how they do in a more competitive environment.

DE, is the go to army for that :)

GW's gone a bit batty with the boxsets, if you want to go ahead with them, look for the previous start collecting box set, it has 3 reavers, 10 Warriors a raider and an Archon, its a much better start to a DE army.

Those look great all lined up together like that. It's going to be quite the sight when they've all been painted.

I'm looking forward to seeeing what you do with the Salamanders, their colourscheme has always been one of my favourites. What 3rd party bits are you considering?

Thanks, Nutty!

If you look up a website called "popgoesthemonkey" and search for salamanders. There's a lot of bits that one can use there... I'll be focusing on the shoulder pads, backpacks, vehicle iconography, and a few other things.

So after further study... I do not think I'll be doing Salamanders after all.

I think I have an idea for a creative project to recreate a Successor Chapter that I find really cool.

I'll keep you updated! ;D

the Reaver looks awesome, the colour scheme just works.

The orange and white on the eel is a nice combo too.

Thank you, Blazinghand, I'm glad that you like my latest iteration of Akhelians  ;D.

I'm hoping to finish an entire unit of three and some more Reavers by the end of this weekend.

What colour(s) are you using for the skin of the elf? it comes out really well.

I've actually only based the elf so far. At the moment, it's a Grey Seer primer with cadian fleshtone layered on top  :). The fairer skin tones certainly go over Grey Seer very well. I'd give it a try   :).
