Generally dark; deep blues, purples, dark greens, reds. Then with contrasting bright hair, eyes and shinny blades works well.

A pic down the bottom is a good example, a nice purple/black colour scheme with browny-orange hair

Basically, any color added as a compliment to a base of black will work fine with DE.

try to mix dark and light colours, which are joined to your kable name. mine, for example, are black, silver and orange (kable of the flamig skull). if the name includes "blood", mabey you could use reds etc,etc...

Use strange colour metallics to give them an unearthly feel. Metallic blues and greens are good. Either do the whole model in these colours, or just use them for trim. They work well with black.

Dark, make em dark
I tend to agree with the metalics. Almost all of my models have a mix of metalic colours mixed with a basic colour. It makes em look damn fine. Especially if you want to dirty em up afterwards it gives them that extra edge whych you wont find in other races. Try red with metalic (brass, silver, don't matter) it almost feels like the character has a blood drenched armour.

I like to keep it nice and inky.
Have you seen the pic of the DE warrior in the new rulebook?
That's basically what my colour scheme is like. Drybrushed dark metal, then fleshwashed and black ink washed.

Note: Unless you spray 'em white, don't expect to paint em red! Its just too labourious.. I spray 'em black, then paint the helm, torso armour and shoulder pads, shin leggings, gauntlets and bracers a dark blue and then deliberatly over highlight them in enchanted blue, the overall effect looks really decent for the tabletop! Also I paint the eyes white and the gun silver. This is also a rather quick and effective way to paint an entire squad! All thats left is to base 'em!
Good luck with the painting!

Oh bugger! I thought my metallic blue warriors were pretty unique.
Keep the blades shinny, you could base coat the models black and then give 'em a quick drybrush in another colour to highlight the edges (hope my idea's getting through) blood red turns a nice brownish red when using this technique, codex grey on the other hand looks just horrible
