Some early info on the new tomb kings army book reached me. May not tell the source but it proofed to be right several times in the past. However, as the design of the book is in an early state, I wouldn't bank on all these rules being in the book.- All the current units will make it into the new book but the battle standard bearer wich will be dropped- Skeletons will be allowed to choose a stand and shoot reaction- Undeads will not be allowed to make a march move - Tomb kings and princes will not be able to cast incantations anymore. Instead the "my will be done" rule will enable a unit they are attached to to have a second movement in the magic phase. This can't be dispelled.- Tomb kings and princes will be immune to poison. They will get the option to wear heavy armour and to ride a skeleton horse. Princes will have the option to carry the battle standard- Priests and high priests will be ordinary magicians. However, they will be immune to miscasts. Don't know much about the lore they'll use but they will be able to heal more wounds with one spell- Skeleton heavy horsemen will get WS3 and be fast cavalry- Dont' know if chariots will be core or special- Tomb guard will get heavy armor- Ushabti will become really nasty with a new special rule and special weapons. Don't know anything more abput that- Bone Giant will get several equipment options. (Maybe as in the chronicles?) Will get WS4 and T6 but presumably lose unstoppable assault
Just few "rumors" I've heard through the "grapevine"...*Tomb Kings/Princes mounts: Will be able to FINALLY ride a Skeletal Steed! Also strange rumor of an "old style" Carrion mount...*New Character: Supposedly a "Construct" type, much like an Ushabti or the such! Only Hero level...*Sphinx: Rules and sculpts aren't easy. But, if it happens, it'll take up a Rare slot, have Anti-Magic rules, and be more "defensive" then the Bone Giant.*Ushabti: Upgrades such as Champs, and weaponary were mentioned...*Bone Giants: Equipment/weaponary upgrades almost a definite! Sprue suppose to be well "furbished".*Casket of Souls: No longer will take up a Rare...and optional rule to Target one enemy unit, and roll 3d6 vs their LD! I'm hoping this is incorrect...*Curse: Killing a King will be more painful then a Prince, and not sure it'll have anything to do with LD tests...*Tomb Swarms: No longer 0-1 of course...*Tomb Guard: Optional weapon upgrades, Halberds with hvy Armor? Doesn't quite make sense...but who knows...*Magical Items: Old style of Banner of the Hidden Dead/Legion will be back! Around 125pts, but will allow you to take any point sized unit (from set units) and have them appear at the START OF THE TURN!!! Thus a Charge will be available to the unit...coupled with Ikon of Rakaph, this is potentially the "one hit wonder". Much better Talismans and Arcane Items, some Weapons, Armor will probably stay much as is. *Icon Bearer: Will get a "My Will Be Done..." Rule, but only affects Movement I believe...and an increase in his stats! (Wight King?)
Hi lads… and ladys of course ;-)I am not entirely new to this forum as I’f been a silent reader for month but now I got some interesting info from a guy working at GW headquarters so I created an account to tell you.New Tomb Kings will be out in May 2010. So they will be the last armybook before 8th edition. I will list up the information he gave me in the following, text in italic are my personal comments on it. Where I write nothing about a unit, it means that either the unit stays as it is or my source had no information about any changes. “Will stay the same” means that the rule or unit would stay unchanged.Edit: My source didn't know anything about any new units but as he isn't a game designer himself that doesn't mean that there will be none. Personally I am quite shure that there will be at least new miniatures for the skeletons but that is just gessing, I have not heard anything about it.Undead rule:- Will stay the same in principle but you may take a stand&shoot reaction now. That one was expected since the banshee may stand&shoot as well.Magic: - Will also stay the same with some minor changes:-- Incantation of summoning reanimates D6 / 2D6 wounds-- Tomb princes have 6” range like tomb kings-- Tomb kings and princes have the option to generate dispel dice and energy dice (dispel spells in play only)Pft... the adjustment in effectiveness of the incantations is ok, it should be level with the vampire one this way. Princes range is good. Dispell dice for Kings and Princes? Great, I only hope it won't be overpriced.Undead construct rule:- Will stay the same“It came from below…” rule:- Will stay the sameThe curse:- Will stay the sameCasket of souls- Will have three different incantations to choose:-- One incantation healing D3 wounds of all friendly units and characters on the field-- One incantation similar to the current one-- One incantation moving D3 units- Will grant a ward save to it’s crew and attached priestsThat sounds great!Tomb prince:- Magic changes, see above- Strength 5- If a tomb prince is the general you may take one unit of chariots as a core unit- May be given the battle standardLooking at the Scar Veteran S and T5 for heros was to be expected. Battle standard for the prince is great.Battle standard bearer:- New name (unknown to me)- May be given the battle standard but may be used without as well- May ride on a skeleton horse or in a chariot- No magic- Killing blow- WS5, S4, T4, A3A simple fighting hero without magic and an avarage profile. Ok, especially for friendly games with limited magic but I think the Prince will stay the better choice.Skeleton warriors:- Wear light armour without further costsDecrease of one point would have been better but better than nothing.Skeleton light horsemen:- May be given light armour- May be given Spears and ShieldsThat shoud give us some interesting taktical options.Skeleton heavy horsemen:- Are out!I won't bemoan the loss of them.Tomb Guard:- 9(!) points/modelAll right, Grave Guard cost 10 (?) points/model. And they have heavy armour and can make march movements... 9 points is ok I think.Ushabti:- 4+ armour save (including undead construct)- 5+ ward save- M6- 55 points/modelThat should make Ushabti usable. Not more but usable.Carrions:- S4- CheaperStronger and cheaper? Great!Tomb scorpion:- more expensive (about 100 points)- 5 wounds (!) Wow, the most extrem change I think. Scorpions with unit size 5 will be nasty!Bone Giant:- equipment options (similar to Warhammer chronicles)The options have been a baublery in the past, they will stay a baublery in the future.Screaming Skull Catapult:- Every model touched is hit, not only on 4+.The way it is in the Skaven book. Maybe a hint of what to come in the 8th edition rule book?GreetingsHennesy
Stuff i've heard for the new tomb kings book:Tomb king/prince: s5. new mounts - a giant carrion called a rock, a royal chariot (heavy chariot with bells), and a construct (skelebeast style thing). special curses available.Liche priest: new incantation rules. lesser priests can be taken in units. rip-style stuff.Icon bearer: a tomb guard hero, with a bsb that gives -1 to crumble within 12". gets a special incantation from his banner.Shawabti: construct hero. counts as lesser priest.Skeleton warriors: come with bows. may have spears and shields for +1. light armour option. cheaper.Skeleton cavalry: come with bows, may swap to spears. fast cav, cheaper.Skeleton light chariots: core now.Tomb swarms: 3w, 3a undead swarms. 25pts, m5. can be given 10" flight and/or poison.Tomb guard: cheaper.Tomb scorpion: new construct rules. new killing blow/poison rules. can be upgraded to count as a lesser priest.Ushabti: new construct rules. s5 with halberds, and other equipment/command options. cheaper.Carrion: cheaper. a big one called a rock.Heavy cavalry: same as core cav, with +1ws, light armour, shield, and spear. may swap shield and spear for flail. cheaper.Heavy chariot: proper chariot.Desert stalkers: skellies with two handweapons or bows, and poison. may scout or upgrade to icfb. robes.Godblooded: new elite (better than tg). greatweapons. bonuses based on chosen god - sun god acts like mark of nurgle. animal death masks.Bone giant: new construct rules. +1ws. equipment options. cheaper. may count as a banner.Catapult: multiple ammunition types - burning skull, screaming skull, swarming skull, weeping skull.Casket: different "modes". boosts priest's incantations. The embalmed: mummies. no crumble. t5, regen, 2w.Tomb sphynx: desert spirit/construct. moves as ethereal. better stats than scorpion. may icfb when on the field. base-contact template sandstorm.
Hi,I did put this already in previous threads on Tomb kings, but I feel now that this deserves a thread of its own.My source told me that a plastic Bone Giant will be accompanying the TK release. That's it for now, I will see if I can get more out of him, but he's always pretty cryptic when he talks about possible releases, damn him
i will confirm no less than 4 new plastic sets. new and updated fluff as to whats is happening in current warhammer world.
hello allif this is not new news i apologise and will close the thread. i was in my local gw earlier and was talking to the staff there about upcoming armies. He told me that the new army books would follow the cannon much closer. The example he gave was that the new tomb king book would contain chariot mounted ushabti and skeleton's with more 'aulthentic' weapons ( khepeshs, scimitars, leaf head spears ect). take what you will from it as mentioned above it is a blue shirt so salt is nescecary. personally i would like to believe it but i easily see it unbalacing games thay were in.
No speel about "i have a secret source" or "I know a guy". Read, enjoy with a grain of saltCharacters:New rules:Skeleton Units (Archers, Warriors, Chariots, Light Cavalry, Sand Stalkers, Tomb Guard) can march within 12” of general, 6” of Tomb PrinceConstructs, divinely blessed (Ushbati, Tomb Scorpion, Maidens of the Gods, Bone Giants) can march within 12” of the hierophant and 6” of a liche priest Tomb Prince cannot use movement spell anymore, only strike more onePremise seems to be basically means tomb king armies movement won’t be so restricted by magic. So if you don’t want to go magic heavy, or first anti-magic armies you can still actually move. This means more spells going off to strategically place units, heal wounded models. The actual mechanisms of TK magic doesn’t seem to be changing muchApparently the “curse” will hit lighter with tomb princesApparently the “roc” is a giant vulture, which can be chosen as a mount for someone in list Rumours of some sort of warrior priest, like the empire ones – can cast cheap bound spells from a different list. Meant to enhance units + decent profile. Apparently enhances the maidens unitCoreSkeleton WarriorsSkeletons becoming 6 points WITH light armour, shield, hand weapon Can be armed with a Khepesh or spearKhepesh increases the bonus from wielding a hand weapon and shield to +2 Armour save. Basically skeletons using hand weapons and shield can get 3+ armour save in combatFull Command now only +15 pointsSeems like games-workshop wants 1. Some tasty new things to model – although not sure why this weapon gives better armour 2. Actually promote using large blocks of skeletons. Skeletons are great since they never flee, but die so easily and suck at combat. 3+ armour save in combat is a great start for using these guys more, at much cheaper points.Skeletons ArchersSkeleton Archers are now 0-20 units, cost 7 points, and can be giving poisoned arrows for a large points increaseSkeleton Archers have war memories ability (don’t think it is actually called this, but I’m going to call it that)Skeleton Archers may select the “stand and shoot” reaction, even though undead can generally only select the hold reactionToning down use of these guys are large blocks on infantry and more at flankers, skirmish hunters. Bout time they can stand and shootLight CavalryLight Cavalry only 12 points now and have war memories abilityLight cavalry may select the “flee reaction” even though undead can generally only select the “hold reaction”. They automatically rally after making a flee reaction next turn. This seems a bit, dunno if it makes sense, maybe it actually means something elseHaven’t heard anything definite about whats happens to heavy cavalry ChariotsNo change it seems generally – still light flanking unitsTomb GuardCan take either great weapons OR hand weapon, shield and KhepeshSame rules otherwise – apparently mebbe an extra bonus when the tomb king is in the unitMaidens of the GodsUnit of Khalida’s. 2 Attacks, poison, regenerate, 5+ ward save, 2 hand weaponsOnly strength 3, toughness 4 though. Basically mass attacking special unit vs hard hitting tomb guard unit it seems. Good against lightly armoured armies?Ushabti4+ Armor save, 5+ ward save, otherwise same. Would’ve liked toughness 5, seems GW wants to emphasise low toughness, light armour in the army stillTomb ScorpionNOT getting 5 wounds, slight points increase, seems liche priest in the scorpions body means it can always march – which is good since there doesn’t seem any rule change for the “from below”CarrionSame it seems – doesn’t look like the roc (giant vulture) can be added, its in the mount section it seemsSand StalkersScouting Skeletons, poisoned weapons and bows, 4+ save against shooting (mirage or something – desert sands or something I dunno), war memories (stand and shoot)Thought carrion and scorpions did a pretty good job, I still like the conceptRare:Bone GiantCheaper, 2+ armor save (can take shield for 1+), two hand weapons or a bowMore like 200 points now – 1+ doesn’t seem like “lightly armoured” but oh wellScreaming Skull CatapultsSameCasket of Souls3 Abilities: 1. Old shooting attack at one unit2. Soul Well: Elect a point in line of sight – that point causes terror till the beginning of next tomb king players go3. Malediction of the Eternal: Unit Cannot shoot, if it fails ld test cannot move eitherStill causes terror, -1 to wizards on battlefieldObelisk of Light3 Abilities1. Ward of the Gods: gives 5+ ward save to a unit2. Radiance of the Heavens: gives a unit +1 attack with magical, flaming attacks3. Light of the Sky: Units must pass leadership test to direct magical missiles, shooting at unit+1 to incantation rolls of the priest directing obeliskSphinx:May fly, magical breath attack, 4 wounds, only strength 5, 5+ ward save, magical resistance (2), units need to pass leadership test or be unable to attack it – transfixing or somethingThis all clearly needs to be taken with a grain of salt, but apparently this is the general gist of how the list is going. Still haven’t heard heaps about some crucial things1. Will heavy chariots appear2. Magic items3. Is the magic phase definitely going to be the same system4. If auto-break is been changed in 8th edition, how much will it impact on an army that often relied on this to be effective.I’m not going into what I heard about special characters but the general themes seemed to be:1. Dude on a flying chariot2. Assassin hunting down those who wronged the TK – swore to the gods to hunt them down – something about nagash3. Stretta and Khalida are back4. High Liche Priest riding giant flaming vulture from the underworldThis stuff was so vague that its probably just nonsense – who knows
heard some stuff today at the workshop while playing 8th edition (pretty good system so far) take it with a grain (or a truckload) of salt.black shirt of my GW said that he has seen the 3 ups of the skeleton warriors and when pushed further he said they have the neck braces with some wrist braces and a tabard (think more dynamic looking Chariot riders) and will be out by the end of the year.i don't quite believe him but a rumour is a rumour so here you go. also don't shoot the messenger i've only qouted what he said himself.
In the Ogre Howdah thread, Avian posted this, dont know if it helps much:Quote Nothing unlikely about seeing ogre or tk stuff at GW HQ these days. andQuote Dead people should be before fat people.
Stuff i've heard for the new tomb kings book: Tomb king/prince: s5. new mounts - a giant carrion called a rock, a royal chariot (heavy chariot with bells), and a construct (skelebeast style thing). special curses available. Liche priest: new incantation rules. lesser priests can be taken in units. rip-style stuff. Skeleton warriors: come with bows. may have spears and shields for +1. light armour option. cheaper. Skeleton cavalry: come with bows, may swap to spears. fast cav, cheaper. Skeleton light chariots: core now. Tomb swarms: 3w, 3a undead swarms. 25pts, m5. can be given 10" flight and/or poison. Tomb guard: cheaper. Tomb scorpion: new construct rules. new killing blow/poison rules. can be upgraded to count as a lesser priest. Ushabti: new construct rules. s5 with halberds, and other equipment/command options. cheaper. Carrion: cheaper. a big one called a rock. Heavy cavalry: same as core cav, with +1ws, light armour, shield, and spear. may swap shield and spear for flail. cheaper. Heavy chariot: proper chariot. Desert stalkers: skellies with two handweapons or bows, and poison. may scout or upgrade to icfb. robes. Godblooded: new elite (better than tg). greatweapons. bonuses based on chosen god - sun god acts like mark of nurgle. animal death masks. Bone giant: new construct rules. +1ws. equipment options. cheaper. may count as a banner. Catapult: multiple ammunition types - burning skull, screaming skull, swarming skull, weeping skull. Tomb sphynx: desert spirit/construct. moves as ethereal. better stats than scorpion. may icfb when on the field. base-contact template sandstorm. Tomb kings will not be out before 8th edition. There will be a bit of fluff on 'modern' araby. undeath cults! Mention of more 'tomb kings' around the world, old empire, badlands, lustria, cathay, etc. Some truly nasty magic items and curses are proposed. Special characters: Settra the imperishable - king on royal chariot. powerhouse lord. Golden ushabti guardian High liche priest entombed in bone giant Liche with biblical incantations Female mummy with snake abilities Desert spirit uberstalker Old follower of nagash Sacred icon bearer mummy Bretonnian (!) knight King on mummified lizard
I have heard they are doing the models, but I hadn't heard anything RE: the rules for them. Last time I spoke to a studio worker they were looking at Khemri release early next year, however that was a couple months ago and if they got the models done early, then they concievably could get them done.
Hints on new units in the Rulebook: There's a nice description of a Tomb Kings Army in the Rulebook. Aside of the obvious regiments of Skeleton Warriors, scarab swarms, chariots, riders and tomb scorpions, there are some new things described. - A Bone giant wielding a giant Bow. (which would match some old rumours) - A bone Giant wielding a Obelisk, to honor the Gods. (which would match the recent "Moar giant thingies!" - Floating ships. Yes, with sails, etc. Settra's personal ship was described with a huge sanctuary the form of a golden pyramid. Jaffa, kre! - Undead behemoths, with "the Kings adornement", whatever that's supposed to mean. - A Sphinx ("giant Lionlike creatures")
To be clear on this one: I was told by 3 sources by now that October will be most definatly a Fantasy release (95% for all three of them) and that it will be a armybook. My souzrces tended to be very accurate lately, I got loads of good Info on the 8th Ed book about 3 months ago from them, and most of it proved to be right. That's why I believe them now, aswell. I wouldn't put my life on the line (that would be plain stupid), but I would agree to bet, lets say, a weeks earning on Khemri for october.
There's 100% definite Undead releases in July (24th to be exact), I've got product codes and prices and everything, but they're nothing to write home about... and don't really have anything to do with upcoming Tomb Kings. I really was just teasing about that aspect.
You won't have to wait that long for new skeleton horses ... but that is another story.
