Topic: Painting Competition XII - Armoured Fist Squad Category (Vote)

The ground rumbled as another artillery strike wrecked havoc somewhere further up the line. Dust and splinters tumbled from the beams and overhead cover above (where else would overhead over be?) in counterpoint to the shaking ground.  “By the Emperor’s sacred sippy cup!” Shouted the colonel who doesn’t really need a name as they’re just an NPC filling a part. “If we don’t get reinforcements immediately we’ll be over run! Contact central and see who they can get us right now. Any delay and we’ll not be here by the time they arrive.”

“Contacting central colonel NPC, replied Sergeant Exposition. “We have a number of units ready for deployment to crucial sectors. Central has ordered that only one unit may be drawn down by each sector till the situation clarifies itself.”

“Damn and blast their eyes,” snarled Colonel NPC. “Don’t they know what’s at stake here? We’re exposed out here.” The colonel took a deep breath and focused her thoughts. “Right Sergeant Exposition, tell me who we have available and we’ll save the advance ourselves if we have to.”

“Sir, to begin with we have the Bellemonde 362. They’ve recently been resupplied and equipped under the command of Inquisitor Psychologis Ruminahui. They’re listed as being 90% combat capable and ready for immediate deployment.”

“Next, we have reinforcements from the recent Q-Cons campaign on the world of Belfast. They’re under the command of  Lieutenant Colonel Parak and listed as being 80% combat effective. However, their listed strength is 150% of our mission requirements and they are recently blooded.”

“Also available are Avian Armoured Response units under the command of Captain Talon Raven. A new formation but one that has been highly listed amongst the training regiments. They’ve blown out the training curve sir and while they’re currently unblooded their courage is not faulted.”

“A speciality unit is also listed available sir. The testbed Hippogriff unit has been listed as available for front line assessment. They’re under command of an unranked new comer sir, by the name of Aircav.”

“Finally sir, we have the forces of the 31st Mordian. They’re currently under the command of Lieutenant Lockz and are reportedly already under transport to this sector. Supply has been prepositioned for them at central and they may be deployed almost immediately upon arrival.”

Those are the available options. Which one do you choose?

The Avian representative, Private Public, saluted briefly. "If I may, sir (or is it m'am? could've sworn I saw a 'her' in there), but I would recommend Aircav's unit for the mission. Speed, maneuverability and firepower in a nice skimmer package. Plus, they look good on the frontline, too."


(that's my vote. Good work on that skimmer!)

+++RE: Mission Roster+++ My units are ready and willing to take on this mission. I assure you everyman is ready to fight and die wherever belief in the Emperor falters. I must however vouche for Aircavs vast experience despite his rank. He runs a tight ship and after checking the specs of those fantastic prototype craft his forces utilize, I would very much like to read their post mission breifings and stats. All the candidates however, would in my oppinion, be more than up to the task and deserve the glory won for the 40th corps.

As can be seen by all now - Aircav was the clear favourite. A reward will be organised as soon as the US government sends us millions billions of dollars to fund it.

And I'm pleased to see mine do as well as it did - once Aircav's went up, I knew his was the better paint job.

Incidentally, I want to say congratulations to all who participated - these things aren't just about winning (or even mainly so), but showing with the community people's work.  Not to say that the entries weren't excellent - because they were.  I think the fact that each contest has been won by a different person says a lot about the community and the contests - everyone has a chance to win, and that people are willing to really look at the models and vote for the ones that connect with them the most.
